Henry Budd and the Early Christian Mission at The Pas

Henry Budd, baptized in 1823 as a son of Chief Wathaweekapow, becomes a lay reader and teacher among the O pasquai near The Pas. He travels via Hudson Bay and Cumberland House, builds a log house with a room serving as school and meeting place for the new Christian community.

Joe Nasacapow Passes Away in Moose Lake at 61

Joe Nasacapow died in Moose Lake on Monday after a lengthy illness. A well known figure in The Pas and surrounding areas, he was 61 and educated at Big Eddy. He was an ardent soccer player and served as an interpreter for various official functions, often quoting his views on Indian treaties with Queen Victoria and British jurisprudence. He recently moved to Moose Lake and visited The Pas as needed.

General course to begin in The Pas schools

The Collegiate General Course launches this September replacing the Commercial Course at The Pas. The Kel sey School Board approved the plan this month and a public meeting will explain the program on Wednesday May 5 at 7:30 PM in the collegiate auditorium. The course starts at grade 10 this year, then 11 and 12 in subsequent years.

Miss Margaret Barbour Receives Life Membership

Miss Margaret I Barbour a longtime Pas Manitoba teacher was awarded a life membership in the Manitoba Teachers Society Certificate presented by president Miss Elizabeth F Redmond at the April 19 Winnipeg dinner Barbour who taught 42 years at The Pas Collegiate now Margaret Barbour Collegiate also taught eight years in New Brunswick and called herself an ordinary person during the ceremony

Queen Scouts Honored by Manitoba Lt Governor

Thompson Road Passable But Not Recommmended

The Thompson road near The Pas is described as passable but travel is not recommended as mild weather approaches. The highway branch closed the road earlier to avoid stranded motorists, reopened it during a cold spell, and removed barricade signs. New warnings say rough surface travel not recommended with ongoing construction.

Churchill Seeks Winter Road Link to Thompson

Churchill Chamber of Commerce pushes for a winter road to Thompson about 250 miles away. Northern engineers estimate construction at not more than 1000 dollars per mile, based on western Arctic precedents.
