Bill Thomas executive director of NewStart says the group remains undecided about its coming year. He spent two days in Winnipeg meeting with federal and provincial officials and was instructed to withhold comment until after another Winnipeg meeting. A government statement is expected after this week's discussions. The two project proposals are not yet announced.

Two Shows At Ice Carnival
The ice carnival at the arena features two shows this weekend. Saturday night at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM. Tickets are sold by The Pas Figure Skating Club or at the door. Train Car Collision at Seventh Street Crossing
Elmer Buchberger driving east on Seventh Street collided at the crossing with a Canadian National engine from a three car set. Buchberger escaped injury as the car suffered considerable damage while the engine, traveling north, cleared the crossing after the incident last Thursday evening.

English Course Transferred From K.C.C. To M.B.C.I
A ten week English course opened for 26 new citizens in The Pas with help from Kelsey School Division and the forest complex industrial relations department. It moved from K.C.C. to Margaret Barbour Collegiate and runs Tuesday evenings for ten weeks with instructor Mrs. Paul LeMay. Last year’s course was led by Mrs. Jim Fasano. Students pay 14 dollars each for the full course, many from Europe including Finland, to aid adapters at the forest complex site.

Indian Health Grant Aids Manitoba Hospital Expansion
Lawrence Whitehead of the Manitoba Indian Brotherhood presented a 345000 cheque to Bert Hayes of St Anthony Hospital Board on behalf of National Health and Welfare Minister John Munro. The funds, part of a 385000 federal grant, support construction and renovation for the hospital serving Indian communities since 1912 in The Pas.

Firemen Busy With Six Alarms Last Week
The Pas Volunteer Fire Department answered six alarms last week including one false call at 9 30 p m Saturday claiming a fire in the local courthouse which proved to be a hoax. Fire Chief Earley cited the misleading tip as unnecessary alarm. Crews were also summoned to extinguish a third floor blaze at the Cambrian Hotel on Edwards Avenue reported at 4 30 a m Tuesday. No Evidence of Break In at Keewatin College Safe
Thieves stole 466 from a counsellor's office safe at Keewatin Community College residence, with police noting no forced outside entry. The theft occurred between 3:00 am and 8:00 am on Friday, March 26, and a resident counsellor reportedly lost a master key a week earlier outside a downtown store.

Break-In At MBCI Targets Rifles and Cash
Police report a break in at Margaret Barbour Collegiate late Saturday night. A cinder block shattered a southeast classroom window to enter. A Coke machine in the staff room was smashed and two .22 calibre rifles plus a small cash amount were stolen. The rifles belonged to the Smaller Rifle Club run by the local Game and Fish Association. The incident occurred at 11:20 p.m. a fire extinguisher outside was noted by a snowmobile operator. No suspects yet. investigation continues.

Canary Stolen Left To Die From Gateway Drugs
Five or six boys, ages 8 to 12, stole a canary from Gateway Drugs on a Friday afternoon. The bird was found the next morning by Gerald Lauze near a laundromat. Lauze took the canary home to Mr Doucette, who said the bird died despite warming efforts. He identified the culprits if they return, but doubted they would.

Driver Training Starts At Keewatin Community College
WILL BIGELOW of Carroll Motors presents a 1971 Chevrolet to R. Mitchell vice principal of Keewatin Community College.
