Old Time Pit Beef Barbecue at Carrot Valley Hall

A first time event at The Pas on Saturday July 2 features an Old Time Pit Beef Barbecue on the Carrot Valley Community Hall grounds. Festivities run 1:30 to 2:00 P.M with pony and cart racing and special racing events for the youth. barbecue served 5:00 to 7:00 P.M followed by an evening dance at Carrot Valley Hall.

Drive In Theatre Opens at The Pas July 15

The Pas will host a new drive in theatre opening around July 15. Owner Orest Wintonyk of Swan River will operate north of the Tamarack Motel on the old highway, bringing a 28 by 56 feet screen and capacity for 200 cars, with eventual expansion to 600. Cars will be welcomed nightly from around 10 p.m. through late October, then a six month regular season. A name contest is announced for the theatre.

Delayed Opening For Winton Pool Announced By Lions Club

Frost in the ground prevents opening the Winton Swimming Pool. New dates set for Red Cross and Royal Life Saving swimming instruction run July 4 to August 29, with morning lessons and evening adult swim. Registration at the pool. prices listed for children students and adults.

Councillor Carnegie urged action over a Cathedral Avenue home occupied by a provincial welfare family blamed for daily drunken brawls. He cited police calls and long-running neighbor distress across three buildings on the lot, with no improvement after years of reports.

Motorcycle Crash injures teen on Highway 10

A teen, Malcolm Campbell, suffered two broken ribs last Friday night when the Honda motorcycle he operated veered off 10 Highway south of the Tamarack Motel and struck a sign. RCMP say he froze at the controls. Damage was under $100.

Man Held On Coroner Warrant In River Death Case

A 22 year old Cumberland Houseman Gilbert Alexander Laliberty is held at The Pas on a coroner s warrant. RCMP recovered 55 year old Ronald Ross of Duck Bay from The Pas River on June 19. A Winnipeg post mortem found the death not an ordinary death and investigators continue to probe the case.

Wilchowy Voices Frustration with DPW Over Local Works

Councillor Alex Wilchowy vents anger at the Manitoba Department of Public Works in The Pas about unfulfilled promises. He cites two gravel loads at the Salvation Army Hall, missing road gravel after provincial takeover, dangerous manhole conditions on Seventh, and improper ground work at Halcrow with extra fill and no grass. The council plans a formal letter outlining these concerns to the department.

Kobar Seeks Traffic Check On Third Street

Councillor Bart Kobar urged a traffic slowdown on Third Street at a council meeting saying Hondas and other cars turn the street into a speedway risking deaths. He noted police reluctance without posted 30 mph limits. Councilor George Hiatt questioned the bylaw.

Waterway voyage with prefab classrooms to Sturgeon Landing

Keystone Fisheries moved two one room classrooms to Sturgeon Landing to augment the local school. The 12 by 40 foot prefab rooms were built in Calgary and loaded on the Keystone barge. Captain Henry DeLorande led the voyage from The Pas via the Saskatchewan and Sturgeon Weir River.

Carroll Retains Pas for PC in Manitoba Election

Jack Carroll was re elected to the Manitoba Legislature to represent The Pas constituency. This was his fourth straight win since 1958. He received 2209 votes to Liberal Cal Gibson 1734 and NDP Glen Allen 245, not including Dawson Bay, four special polls, or write in ballots.

New Board of Directors Named at The Pas Friendship Centre

The Pas Friendship Centre elected a 1966 board with terms of three, two, and one year. Officers include K E Rolfe as president Henry Wilson as vice president and Cliff Reno as secretary. Elected members include Henry Wilson Joe Ross John Young and others. The group plans active fundraising after receiving 8.8 in government grants, with continued page 13.
