Beef Barbecue Annual Affair draws crowd in Carrot Valley
The inaugural Old Time Pit Beef Barbecue at Carrot Valley Hall drew near 800 plates in a two hour supper as 650 pounds of beef were slow roasted in two four by eight by three foot pits. Spectators watched charriot races while officials honored Doug Gourlay and Sid Wilson among Manitoba figures.

Escapee Nabbed at Clearwater Lake
A 37 year old Saskatchewan man who escaped from Prince Albert jail a year ago was captured at Clearwater Lake after sneaking into the MacPhee cabin. Favell faced charges of breaking and entering and unlawful possession of a firearm following the incident on June 22.

Ross Inquest Cancelled
Coroner Neil Macphee announced he will not conduct a coroner's inquest into the death of Ronald Ross of Duck Bay. The 55 year old man was found in The Pas River after an apparent beating and drowning. autopsy in Winnipeg indicated he was alive when placed in the river. Gilbert Alexander Laliberty, 22, of Cumberland, is detained on a coroner's warrant and may be released if no further action follows.

Man Finds Eleven Leaf Clover in Devon Park
Richard Ducharme of Cormoran believes in luck and spends Sundays at Devon Park search ing for four or more leaf clovers. He found an eleven leaf clover and brought it to The Herald office to verify. His collection already includes four five six seven and now eleven leaf specimens.

Ro Blin officer takes command of The Pas detachment
Corporal A M Clark of Ro blin arrived in The Pas Tuesday to assume command of the town R C M P Detachment. He succeeds Sergeant Jack Stuart retired from service June 30. The Clarks have two sons and Clark is no stranger to The Pas having served here fifteen years ago on the rural detachment under Corporal Spicer.

Street oiling began Tuesday as town engineer Adam Sus asks motorists to avoid freshly oiled streets for 24 hours. The delay helps the oil form a solid base for longer lasting coverage through the year.

Paulette Blouin was crowned by 1965 Queen Dorothy Merkley at a Saturday night stage show. Bud Jobin presented a mink jacket along with prizes including a Longines diamond wrist watch. Paulette and two princesses from Yorkton and Flin Flon depart for Winnipeg then Minneapolis Aquatennial as guests. Judging used a point system after a fashion show and tea.
