Lions promote arena prize hike and pool funding

The Pas Lions increase the arena prize to 1500 across 15 games and sell tickets locally and through Lion members. Game one starts at eight. Proceeds fund a 2300 Town water line for Winton Pool plus 800 in repairs and 3100 needed for yearly improvements. Bingo next Saturday raises odds of a 1000 prize and pool upgrades.

Lloyd G Williams Dies Suddenly At The Pas

Lloyd G Williams 58 died suddenly at his home in The Pas on June 11. Born in Crandall Manitoba he served as an inspector for Northern Health Services with Manitoba’s government. He covered Churchill Thompson Lynn Lake Cedar Lake and remote camps, traveling about 30 000 miles yearly. Funeral held June 13 at Westmin ster United Church with a Masonic graveside service in Lakeside Cemetery. CONTINUED ON PAGE 12.

Delayed June 22 Exchange Involving Kenare Petroleum

A five to one share swap moving from Kenare Petroleum to Maverick Mining and Oil has been postponed to June 22 in Flin Flon. Original date was June 10. Beating Death At Cranberry Portage

James Jerome Granner, a 39 year old Jamestown N D district attorney, was found dead in a Cranberry Portage lane after a beating following a fishing trip with his son and a friend. Cecil Charles Asmus is held on a coroner warrant and Henry Shaboyer is free on bail on assault charges. A fire at a smoke house beside the Great Northern Hotel was fought by hotel staff and guests as investigators prepare a Winnipeg post mortem.

Third Cranberry Mine Deal Reported Near Cranberry Portage

A third mining deal in the Cranberry Portage area involves fifty four claims eight miles northeast of the Kenare property near Cranberry Portage. Tom Lamb and Red Thompson of The Pas join a large US mining company in a cash, two year option, rumored up to 200000 dollars with no shares. The land has long been known to miners. Lamb has shifted focus after floods forced closures at Moose Lake earlier this year.

Mrs J W Webb to Head The Pas Tourist Bureau

Dulcena Webb named manager of The Pas Tourist Bureau operated by The Pas Chamber of Commerce. The log cabin bureau near the King Trapper sign on Highway 10 is to open June 24 with Webb assuming duties that day. Chamber volunteers built the facility to provide northern Manitoba tourist information and guidance. Local operators are urged to provide literature.

Marjorie Anderson Chosen for Salvation Army Officers College

The Pas resident Marjorie Anderson was selected as a candidate for The Salvation Army Training College for Officers in Toronto. She joins several locals who entered the college in recent years and will undertake a two year program emphasizing Scripture study and practical spiritual service.
