Centennial ideas invited for The Pas centennial project

The Pas Centennial Committee invites public and organizational recommendations for a centennial project. Written submissions must arrive by Wednesday June 17 to Mr John Bodnar Box 449 The Pas. A public meeting will be held after the deadline with Doug McBride from Manitoba Centennial Corporation Board to outline Winnipeg conference outcomes and plans from other centers.

Poor Turnout At Blood Clinic In The Pas

The Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic in The Pas saw only 193 donors from 550 cards sent and local donations lagging. Officials note higher blood supply from Red Cross services while hospital demand slipped from 450 pints in 1963 to 1964’s 196 pints, with 311 pints donated in 1963 and 411 pints in 1962.

Kinsmen Hold District Meet in Flin Flon Convention

Members of the Kinsmen Club of The Pas plan to attend District 2 Convention in Flin Flon on June 12 and June 18. Local delegates include President Sam Chun and wife, President elect Ted Scoles and wife, Deputy Governor candidate Bill Moffat and wife, and Doug Gourley.

Thai cultural lesson during Pas Rotary visit

Miss Scrichan Aasakui from Bangkok spoke to The Pas Rotary Club and Rotary Ann's about Thai history and customs. She shared slides of Buddhist temples and discussed her studies at the University of Manitoba and her Rotary District 555 guest program. Battle of the Bridge Round 2 over Saskatchewan River span

The Saskatchewan River bridge on the CN line, limited to 54 900 pounds gross, faces renewed agitation as Gardewine of Flin Flon staged a load test. Public Works and Utility Board plan daily inspections after prior crossings with 72 000 pounds. Three independent engineers may be appointed to report with government truckers and CN Rail involved.

Mayor Trager Attends Regina Meeting of Mayors

Mayor Harry Trager attended the 27th conference of the Canadian Federation of Mayors in Regina as an executive member of the Manitoba Urban Association. About 450 delegates attended. discussions focused on resolutions addressing financial needs.

Hay Shortage Looms North of Carrot River Due to Flooding

Local farmers along the Saskeram area north of the Carrot River report an 8500 head cattle increase and a hay shortage caused by flooding from Bracken Dam. They urge water level reduction to access hay lands by mid July and warn the lack of alternatives could worsen. Officials confirm fears and note no immediate remedy.

Lee Gordon in on New Cranberry Mine Deal

The Flin Flon MINER reports Lee Gordon of The Pas and Jack Murray of Flin Flon have sold 36 claims to Cam Mines of Toronto for 20000 plus shares with a cash down payment. Gordon says he held 36 claims and released 18 to Cam Mines tied to the original Kenare group. Murray released 18 claims. Kenare Petroleum of Calgary has optioned 36 claims from Howell and Bachnick of The Pas for 200000 over two years, with Kenare to announce further details from Toronto. Assays show 18.5 percent copper and 0.04 ounces gold from Howell Bachnick. Gordon cites copper showings of six to fourteen percent from Cam Mines claims, with comparisons to the Mandy Mine as samples reach up to 25 percent copper.

Blue Bomber Player Opens North Lodge

Kenny Ploen of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers joins Donald Johnson Randy Duncan and JoAnn Feaster in opening Redwood Lodge a new tourist lodge on Kississing Lake in northern Manitoba. The facility sits 40 miles east of Flin Flon in the former Sherridan mining area and includes three refurbished buildings.

Local Reserve Hires Summer Sports Director

The Friendship Center secured Gordon Longmuir of Winnipeg to run a summer sports program on The Pas Reserve. He studies physical education at the University of North Dakota and has begun organizing soccer and other activities. Last Saturday the Band Council approved funds from Band Funds to cover part of Longmuir's wages with additional support from the Friendship Center and the department of welfare.

Murray Harvey Named UIC Manager at Flin Flon

Murray Harvey, longtime UIC employee in The Pas since 1959, is appointed manager of the UIC and National Employment Office at Flin Flon. He succeeds Harold Wells, who returns to The Pas to manage local offices. Harvey begins duties at month end.

Lady Clara Gustavson Receives Life Membership at Royal Purple

At a recent Royal Purple meeting Lady Clara Gustavson was awarded life membership in the local lodge presented by H R L Kowalyk. She is a charter member of The Pas Lodge with three daughters in the order two of whom, Lady Ann Meadows and Lady Marie Libbrecht, attended the ceremony. Her third daughter Lady Jean Mead ows resides in Calgary Alberta and was honored with a corsage and a special lunch.
