Debbie Martin Chosen For Trout Festival Queen Contest

Debbie Martin a 19 year old from The Pas has been picked to represent The Pas at the Northern Manitoba Trout Festival Queen contest in Flin Flon from July 4 to 11. She is engaged to be married and employed at The Bank of Montreal The Pas. Tickets at 1.00 each fund the contest with four 100 draws and two 1000 draws. sales are coordinated by George Takashima and club groups must return tickets by June 28.

Town faces $75,000 tax claim for Forestry complex

Councillor Doug McBride reported at the regnal town council meeting that Receiver Management at the Forestry Complex north of The Pas plans to present Manitoba Development Corporation with a $75,000 tax figure for 1971 on behalf of four companies. The firms are Churchill Forest Industries (Manitoba) Ltd, M.P. Industrial Mills, James Bertram and Son Canada Ltd, and River Sawmills Ltd. The proposal is without prejudice to future tax negotiations beyond 1971. CONTINUED ON PAGE 10.

Clean-A-Thon Sweeps Margaret Barbour Students This Saturday

The Clean A Thon organized by Margaret Barbour Collegiate students runs from 8 AM to 6 PM this Saturday with aJune 19 backup date. Residents aged six to sixty can join, report to Mary Duncan School auditorium to sign in and out, follow routes, and receive sponsor payments per hour. CN Revises Summer Train Schedule Between Winnipeg and Thompson

CN revises passenger train times from June 6 to August 7 due to track maintenance in Northern Manitoba. Trains 90 and 91 Winnipeg to Thompson and 92 and 93 Winnipeg to Churchill run three hours later, with the same shift at intermediate points. Mixed train 291 The Pas to Lynn Lake also delayed by three hours to maintain connections at Lynn Lake.

Municipal Aid Account Provokes Council Friction

Deputy Mayor Audrey Batchelor chaired the Town Council meeting in Mayor Trager’s absence. Debate over the Municipal Aid payment and an RCMP paddy wagon repair bill of 122.36 drew clashes as McBride Koch Hayes opposed while Sokulski Wilchowy favored the resolution, Batchelor declaring it carried amid a tense vote.

Memorial Service for Jennie Lamb at Christ Church

A memorial service for Jennie Lamb wife of the late Tom Lamb is set for 2 p.m. today at Christ Church Anglican The Pas. Mrs Lamb died suddenly Sunday morning June 6 while tending her garden at 70 Edwards Avenue. Cremation occurred Monday at Wog. She recently turned 70 May 31 while visiting Rome Switzerland and England with three daughters. Survivors include seven sons and daughters 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild plus three sisters. Donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart Fund.

Deputy Mayor Defends 92.15 Expense, Faces Backlash

Councillor Bert Hayes faced a $92.15 bill presented to Council for an industrial park deal with I R Corporation. Deputy Mayor Audrey Batchelor said the expenditure was not authorized and Hayes would pay out of pocket. She asserted no council approval existed and no councillor was appointed to pursue the Indian land park deal with the I R Corporation, prompting further member rebuke at the regular meeting.

Kinmen School Patrol Receives Free Show and Plane Ride

A group of about 48 boys and girls who patrol crossings near The Pas elementary schools were treated to a free show at the Lido Theatre on Saturday. Twenty participants enjoyed a plane ride courtesy Lamb Airways The Pas with airport transport provided by Kelsey Bus Lines. The Kinmen Club funded the annual patrol to enhance safety for children and drivers during school hours.
