Ron McBryde MLA for The Pas and Minister of Northern Affairs is re elected in a landslide over Independent George Takashima. McBryde totals 3600 votes to 1855 for Takashima with strong support from The Pas Reserve and other reserves. turnout about 70 percent of 8045 eligible voters.

Four Drown In Rocky Lake Tragedy Claims Four Lives
Four American citizens were found floating in Rocky Lake on June 28 wearing life jackets. The deceased include Sylvia Marion Masson 50 Robert Wilfred Masson 50 and their 14 year old son Keith Allan Masson of St Paul Minnesota and Betty Ilene Pierce 35 of Norma North Dakota. Plans For The Pas Public Library Forges Ahead
The Pas library project moves forward with a possible integration with a province run resource centre via Keewatin Community College. Library board and Town Council will meet to decide structure and location. One Killed In Two Vehicle Collision Near Bignell Bridge
A man from The Pas Reserve, Raymond Perry aged 45, died when his 1971 Plymouth collided with a 1971 Ford pickup just north of the Bignell bridge early Saturday. Five passengers in his vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated at St. Anthony's Hospital. The truck driver, Daniel LePage, 19, from St. Boniface, left unharmed along with two other passengers, James Daemnick, 19, and Geanlac Boullvigne, 20, who also escaped injury. Police indicated the crash line of inquiry is as yet incomplete.

The Pas Special Area Street Program Approved
The Pas will receive a 2.3 million dollar street surfacing project under the Special Area Agreement. Borger Industries Limited of Winnipeg will handle the 1.8 million dollar contract with the remainder for materials engineering and lighting. Province funds plus a 30 percent federal loan cover the total.

Students honored at Margaret Barbour Collegiate graduation
Thirty eight grade twelve students were honored at Graduation Exercises held Thursday Evening. Guest speaker Mary Elizabeth Bayer Assistant Deputy Minister of Cultural Affairs praised achievements. Sylvia Skomorowski won two major awards including The Pas Scholarship and Lion Club Bursary and will study Interior Design at the University of Manitoba. Kilmeny Carrick earned the University of Manitoba Award for best overall academic record. Other winners include Debbie Nikolychuk and Sheila Leonard among others.
