Withrow Case Dropped at Town Council Meeting

The Betty Withrow case was dropped after a resolution by Councillor Koch to instruct Evans Premachuk to discontinue proceedings. The resolution, seconded by Councillor McBride, passed with support from Councillor Hayes and opposition from Councillors Wichowy and Sokulski. Deputy Mayor Batchelor sought reasons before adjournment.

$500 Donation From Wescana Hotels To Festival

Sandy Sanderson on behalf of Marcel Chartier of Wescana Hotels presented a $500 cheque to Trappers Festival Chairman Paul LeMay in the Festival Committee Room at the Cambrian Hotel. The room is turned over for year round use, with an estimated rental value of about $1800 annually. Wescana Hotels will also provide the committee room and festival supplies.

Lottery By law sets licensing for town lotteries at The Pas

Third reading enacted a by law for licensing bingo raffles and bazaar lottery schemes in The Pas. Licences cost 2 dollars per event or 15 dollars annually for a series, intended to ease weekly bingo licensing for groups like the Legion of Elks. Licences issued yearly. unauthorised conduct prohibited.

Two Charged Over Broken Windows In The Pas

Ralph John Mitchell and Pierre Mitchell of The Pas pleaded guilty to wilful damage in Magistrate's Court. They were remanded to January 27 for a pre-sentence report after police arrested them January 20 at 12 05 am following a call about a smashed front plate glass window at The Pas Meat Market and further damage to Deter’s confectionery. The market window valued at 200 and Deter’s at 100.

The Finance Committee chaired by Councillor McBride restructured to review letters at committee meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays each month. The Public Works committee, led by Councillor Wilchowy, will meet on the first and third Mondays. The plan speeds up meetings by handling work at the committee level before council review.

Province funds approval clears 14 month school build plan

The Pas adds Opasquia Kelsey and Margaret Barbour Collegiate with a $63,000 boost from the Department of Education and a total added capital of $74,556, raising basic construction costs to $1,937,537. Graham Construction Ltd secured contracts January 25. Completion estimated in 12 to 14 months with a 26,700 square foot addition including a resource centre and vocational spaces.

Want Town Traffic By laws Enforced
