Highway 163 links Sask The Pas creating northern crossroad

After years of work dating to 1965 the final 26 miles of Highway No 163 were finished connecting The Pas to Carrot River Nipawin and Prince Albert and providing a direct east west route across northern Saskatchewan to Manitoba. Nipawin to The Pas via 163 109 yields 130 miles with an official opening pending suitable weather.

Betty Withrow Case Remanded To February Twenty Fourth

The Town prosecutes Betty Withrow Ltd over a $200 business licence for a clothing store in the Cambrian hotel basement. Magistrate Bill Martin, who drew the by law, recused himself in December. The case, originally set for December 2, is remanded to February 24.

Flin Flon Declares 18-Year-Old Shirley Dion as Festival Queen Candidate

Shirley Elaine Dion, age 18, is Flin Flon’s chosen candidate for the Trappers Festival Queen contest. Born June 3, 1952 in Red Lake Ontario, she moved to Flin Flon with her family in 1949. She attends Hapnot Collegiate and works part time as a file clerk, with interests in sewing reading swimming tennis and power toboganning.

Break in To Pull Car Out At Thompson Supply

RCMP report a burglary at Thompson Supply Redi Mix on a Thursday morning. The thieves used a front end loader to pull a car from a snowdrift and took some fuel from an exterior tank. Entrance was gained by breaking a door lock. police found tracks behind the building and suspect the loader was left running. Investigation continues.

Bomb Scare Reports Reach The Pas In Local Incidents

Two separate bomb threats rattled The Pas last week, targeting MBC1 and the arena complex. Earlier scares since November include four threats to MBC1 and one to Keewatin’s Commercial College. A 15 year old was arrested after the December 8 call to MBC1 and appeared before Judge Bill Martin. A separate call to Margaret Barbour via 140 Fischer Avenue warned The Collegiate around 12:30 p.m. on January 12, prompting RCMP to investigate.

Vandalism Closes P O Lobby After Theft Incidents

Local postmaster Henry Moore announced the lock box lobby will close during late evening hours and all night on weekdays, open 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and be closed all day Sunday due to vandalism and theft from mail boxes.

Suschenko Receives Suspended Sentence for Theft

Magistrate Bill Martin sentenced Stephan Suschenko of Snow Lake to one year with the term suspended on condition of good behaviour and keeping peace for a year after a theft report. Steve Kerestes alleged Suschenko borrowed to buy a ring. $545 vanished from Kerestes who had over $700 in his possession after cashed back pay checks. Police tracked the missing funds after the Jan 1 incident.

Man At 86 Faces Street Vandalism Incident In The Pas

An 86 year old man known as Mr X reports being grabbed on Edwards Street in front of the Gateway Hotel around 10 am. He says the attacker was drunk about 36 and used obscene language when pressed. A bystander intervened, and Mr X expressed disdain for vandalism and recent town break ins as he headed to coffee.
