Manitoba new Human Rights Act bans employment and union discrimination by sex and prohibits discriminatory advertising such as Help Wanted Male or Help Wanted Female. It creates a Human Rights Commission with enforcement powers and fines up to 500 dollars for individuals and 1000 dollars for corporations. Religious and certain nonprofit groups are exempt. The Pas centennial events closed with a toast, a time capsule seal, and Centennial Medallions for committee members and contributors. Notables honored include E B Johanson, J H Sheane, Ed Wong, Herman Reimer, Robert Campbell, G. Smith, W. Crossley, and Mayor Harry Trager. A second century prayer closed the ceremony.
