Time Capsule Corner Stone Toast To Centennial Era
A December 31 ceremony in Council Chambers celebrated Manitoba Centennial 1970 and toasted the next century. The time capsule destined for the 2070 opening will hold The Pas Herald issues, local history, meeting minutes, flags, pictures, and more. Citizens, council members, and Mayor Harry Trager attended the event.

Town Council Winds Up 1970 in Brief Wind-Up Meeting
The Pas Town Council held a short wind-up meeting to clear 1970 business for 1971. A taxi delegation protested adding cars and questioned Solomon Cook's reserve-to-town service. Council issued a resolution advising against adding taxis now and discussed fire protection for The Pas Reserve and the new fire engine. Lotteries were discussed, with continuation on page 5.

First Kraft Wood Pulp Shipment from Churchill Forest
The first shipment of kraft wood pulp from Churchill Forest Industries in The Pas departed last Wednesday via Canadian National Railways. The 247 bales weighed 96,900 pounds and head to a paper manufacturer in Green Bay Wisconsin.

Local Boy Receives Certificate at Bemidji State College

Juveniles Arrested In Festive Season Break-Ins At The Pas
A rash of break-ins damaged businesses in The Pas over the festive period. Harry Trager Ltd. was broken into December 26 at 1 40 am with a juvenile apprehended at the scene and linked to a Denwal Pharmacy break in. A second juvenile was seen in Trager's store but not caught. Entry was via smashed front doors and a boarded door at Trager. Denwal Pharmacy also entered by front door glass, with a watch lighter and dog chain taken. Continued on page 4.

Harveys Win Festive Lighting Contest
The Pas residents Bill Harvey Jeff Smith and Fred S Cook won prizes in the annual Christmas lighting contest run by The Pas Chamber of Commerce. Winners were announced after judges Jim Doucette Ev ans Premachuk and Bob Seidel praised Head and Bell Avenues. Judge Doucette noted many honorable mentions. The judging occurred December 30.

Second Reading On Lottery Licencing In The Pas
Council gave second reading to licensing lotteries in The Pas with a third reading planned. The by law lets charitable and religious groups issue licences to run bingo raffles bazaars and lottery schemes and sets fees based on prize value with caps for bingo raffles and bazaars.
