The Pas Council postpones a final decision on renewing its three year membership in the Norman Regional Development Corporation. The annual per capita assessment would approach $3000. An earlier December committee report offered little support for renewal and the matter remains under study ahead of the Norman corporation AGM in Flin Flon on January 27.

Detox Centre Becomes Reality
At a hospital board meeting Winnipeg officials announced plans for an alcoholism detox and rehab centre to be established here under the M/HeS. C. Details to be announced as the steering committee crafts programs for board approval. A director will be named to coordinate the efforts. The move caps a year of local citizen action begun in April.

Two Fatal Accidents During Holiday Season
Two people died in separate car pedestrian crashes during the holidays. Joe Cameron, 66, of The Pas Reserve, was struck December 20 on Carrot River Road near the entrance to The Pas exhibition grounds. Police said he walked downhill in a westerly direction when he was struck from behind by a car driven by Ben Greening of The Pas.

CFI and Union Conclude New Work Agreement
Workers at Churchill Forest Industries Pulp and Paper in The Pas ratified a labour agreement Dec 2 after negotiations in The Pas. Key terms include a 30¢ per hour wage increase over one year, with additional adjustments for A tradesmen and a base rate of 3.85 dollars per hour. The deal follows conciliation by Manitoba Labour officials.

Lambs Instrumental Aid in Missing Aircraft Search
A trapper near The Pas aided the search for a Beechcraft Bonanza that disappeared after a December 19 takeoff from Grace Lake. Pilot Dennis Huyt Bergman, 45, Winnipeg, and passenger William George Brandgan, 60, Winnipeg, were aboard. Lamb Airways and local residents helped locate the wreck five miles south of Connelly Lake, about 85 miles south of The Pas. A Mayday was received 16 minutes after takeoff. contact was lost four minutes later. Walter Mink left a cabin note to assist searchers.

Child Dies In Cormorant Fire
A five month old girl, Belinda Nobess, died from burns after a minor fire at a Cormorant Manitoba home on December 19. Police say she reached for an electric light and pulled it, igniting her clothing. She suffered 60 percent burns, was transported to St Anthony's Hospital, and died at noon. The father slept in another room. the mother was away nearby when discovery occurred.

Taxicab Committee Established in The Pas
