Labatts Manitoba Brewery expands with giant new brew kettle
Daily equipment arrivals mark progress on the third phase of Labatt’s Manitoba Brewery Limited in west Winnipeg. The latest addition is an 8850 gallon stainless steel kettle, 16 feet in diameter, jacketed and made by Ellett Copper and Brass. Rail travel was limited to 35 mph to move this massive unit. The facility, set for completion in summer 1972, aims for an annual capacity of 390000 barrels with 110000 barrels of reserve. This phase follows earlier expansions begun in 1959 and 1961, totaling a $10 million integrated complex.
