Farmers Lose Government Aid in Carrot River Valley

Farmers in the Carrot River Valley will receive no drainage assistance next year from the provincial government. Spokesman Harry Vandenbogerd said no funds are available, despite a $150000 allocation for The Pas area that was dropped. He urged Minister Sidney Green to intervene, warning farmers cannot endure another crop loss.

Indoor pool opening delayed to mid January 1978

AH reports the new indoor swimming pool will open near January 15 1978 after tiling and deck finishing. Delays in tile supply and the construction shutdown from December 13 to January 1 pushed the start. pool director Pat Patry is recruiting instructors and lifeguards and asks for interested contacts.

Minor Fire at Gateway Hotel In The Pas

The Pas volunteer fire department was called to extinguish a fire burning in a room at the Gateway Hotel in the early hours of December 6. The call was received at 5 30 a m and crews responded promptly to contain the fire.

Detox Centre Eyes Operation In The Pas By Next Year

The Steering Committee for an Alcoholism Detoxification and Rehabilitation Centre in The Pas met with Manitoba officials in Winnipeg to push for a center. Led by MLA Ron Bryde the group expected a 12 month start and noted strong support, with funding from federal and provincial programs. Participants included Mayor Jack Kennedy and other local leaders. a Transair mechanical issue delayed Wednesday talks but a meeting with the Alcoholism Foundation of Manitoba occurred that evening.

Crockett Honored by Indian People for Service in The Pas

Mr and Mrs Garth Crockett were honored by The Pay Indian Reserve Band and members of the Reserve for his five years as supervisor of Indian Affairs in The Pas He earned wide respect among the Indian people with Chief Gordon Lathlin noting he “fought hard for the social life of the Indian people” and even broke rules to aid them This recognition appears on page 7 of the paper

Council Can't Get A Quorum

Town council struggles to form a quorum for December meetings with only three members present including Deputy Mayor Gelowitz and Councillors Hayes and Sokulski. Mayor Kennedy and Gelowitz attended the rescheduled December 11th session, with a further meeting planned for December 13th amid hopes of full attendance.

Fire Dept. praised as good as paid departments

Elks Host Santa Claus December 15 at The Pas

The Pas Elks Lodge will host Santa Claus at the Lido Theatre Friday December 15 starting at 2:00 p.m. Preschoolers and mothers are invited to enjoy free movies candies and a Santa visit. Santa will then visit children at St. Anthony's after the theatre event.

World Championship Dog Races Planned Near Exhibition Grounds

The Pas race chair Tan Gun announces the World Championship Dog Races will start from the Exhibition grounds area near The Pas, with two access roads and ample parking. The main start will be on No.1 fairway of The Pas golf course, then follow a route across Frechette meadow, Lea Krys' river, Mile 3, M. Hills complex, and into the valley. The plan faced earlier questions but is deemed suitable for the Festival, now advancing toward page seven.
