Father Claims Negligence In Son Eye Injury At The Pas

Bill Monteith Sr. blames the The Pas Forestry complex supervisor for his son 20 who suffered severe caustic soda burns to both eyes on November 25 while uncoupling a spool from an empty tank car. He cites lack of protective gear and improper post incident procedures including locked shower rooms and a misrouted ambulance.

PUKATAWAGAN JOINS REGULAR LONG DISTANCE NET

Pukata Wagan connects to the regular long distance network on November 20, announced by Manitoba Telephone System. Two coin telephones serve the community, one outside the Hudson Bay Co wading post and one inside the Band Administration office. Dial the Operator to connect. Transair VP assures service improvements at Charter Night

Vice President Sandy Morrison of Transair told about 300 attendees at The Passions Charter Night that Transair and Northern customers will see ongoing improvements in communication and service. Morrison, introduced by Lion Jim Tollefson, spoke during the fifteenth annual The Pas Lions Club event.

Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival Planned at Exhibition Grounds

The 1973 Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival will be held at the exhibition grounds unless unforeseen circumstances arise. The power toboggan races move to Stock Car Track on Car rot River road due to feasibility. World Championship dog race prize money increases with first prize now 2000 dollars and a Labatt trophy, second 1200, third 800, fourth 500, fifth 350, sixth 200, seventh 100.

Walter Koshel King Trapper enjoyed a trip to North Dakota last week calling it one of the best promotions the Festival has ever received. He recounts the tour from Sunday November 26 to Saturday December 2 with city center visa details noted.

Board of Directors Meet in Ott agwa for Information Program review

The northern members of the Information Communicator Program board will meet in Ott agwa this week with representation from The Pas Special Area. Ron Noble of Ottawa coordinates arrangements as the DREE board reviews the first year and discusses January February and Marek proposals. Bell Canada National Film Board NRC and Health and Welfare assist as progress of similar programs across Canada is reviewed. The board has held year long meetings in each community and this is the first opportunity to meet with senior DREE officials away from field sites.

Camper Bus Fire Destroys Vehicle on Raul s Island

Allan Rogowski of The Pas saw his camper bus erupt in flames while en route to Raul s Island farm. He stopped to check the motor, and the bus burned. No injuries reported and insurance status is unclear at press time.

Santa Arrives Early in The Pas Amid Festive Cheer

Sara visits The Pas on Saturday greeting hundreds of children at the shopping centre. She hands out candies and balloons while a young girl joins her in a chat about Christmas wishes. The trip was sponsored by Bay and Macleods.

Afternoon and evening sessions were held at Margaret Barb Our Collegiate Institute for parent teacher conferences. The following day similar conferences occurred at elementary schools with directions to contact the school office for meetings with the principal or teachers.

Cosmopolitans Open Pas Overture Concerts With Praise

The Pas Overture Concerts opened to a record crowd as the Cosmopolitans performed songs led by Elizabeth Lamkin soprano David Griffith tenor Matthew Murray baritone and Neil Stannard piano. They sang Sing to the Lord a New Song by George Mason and set a high tone for the evening. The Opera Section and A Salute to Operetta drew strong audience acclaim as Schubert’s melodies impressed throughout.

Grand Rapids Man Receives Honor for Manitoba Rescue

Marvin Cook of Gran Rapids was awarded by Lt Governor W J McKeag for heroism in rescuing three American fishermen from a capsized boat on Clearwater Lake near The Pas Manitoba on 18 September 1971. The trio from Wayne Nebraska praised his presence of mind after enduring hours in 40 degree temperatures before the rescue.

Queen Contest Plans Underway for Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival

Plans are underway for the 1973 Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival in The Pas Manitoba from February 9 to 17 featuring a dog race derby and the Miss Queen contest. The Queen Committee led by B N Orvis invites outside communities to participate as the festival issues ground rules.
