The shipping company showed interest in using Churchill port which could extend the shipping season and possibly run into December. A drawback noted is the Danish ships’ 306,000 ton capacity versus the 500,009 ton standard, limiting imports to be brought in by the Danish company.
Mr Gray outlined a plan to route ships and imports through Churchill to profit from Western Canada. He noted a Saskatchewan distributor seeks early June and late fall deliveries of European made machinery and cars via Churchill, with CN rail rate considerations and a push for Manitoba demand and local jobs.
Twenty four grade eleven students from Quebec will visit The Pas for one week starting August 19 on a national Centennial Tour. They travel by CNR and will visit Christ Church Sacred Heart Cathedral Little Museum Clearwater Lake Sanatorium and other sites. A noon luncheon with local high school students is planned.
