In a city message volunteers plan a fund drive to support Scouts attending a week long Jamboree this August at Portage Ta Prairie. Proceeds will fund fuel needs and travel for the troop. residents with missed bottle pickups may call Ray Harmatiuk to arrange a special collection.
The Trapper's Festival annual general meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at Levion Hall starting 7:30 PM. Ten directors will be elected at large and attendees may discuss year business and board selection. The editor’s report and chairman’s support will be presented. new directors must pick officers within two weeks.
Arthur Deslaurier and Wilfred Christianson were found guilty of bootlegging with Deslaurier receiving six months in jail for a second offence and Christianson fined $200 and costs. An appeal was promised. RCMP testified during the hearings, while Jean Rock Cornean’s case was adjourned and Ross E. McLeod’s taxi liquor charge was dismissed by Magistrate Neil MacPhee.
Manitoba Liquor Commission suspended the hotel's license for five days following a report by the Herald alleging over service during the Trappers Festival. The Herald reports two new courses for grades seven to nine next fall Home Economics and Industrial Arts. Courses are to be taught by engaged teachers with potential optional status at grade nine depending on review. Home Economics covers food preparation sewing and related topics while Industrial Arts includes drafting woodworking and later electrical metal work plastics may join in later years.
The Knights of Columbus will begin a bicycle safety program this Saturday April 5 at Sacred Heart School. Riders with last year’s cards should have their bicycles checked at 10 20 am. new participants aged nine and over report at 9 30 am. The first 40 registrants proceed, with another 40 next week until all riders are covered.
