About 20 children in a local Ukrainian culture program learn pysanky under instructor Olga Greening. They master wax-resist dyeing and geometric patterns, tracing designs, applying beeswax with a stylus, and preserving the world’s fate through this ancient custom.
The International Woodworkers of America Local 324 at The Pas staged a walkout at the ManFor Lumber Division this week to protest alleged poor supervision of safety standards. ManFor called the action illegal and a second walkout by the Canadian Paperworkers Union was similarly labeled. The IWA set up an informational picket line Monday morning and the CPU stated it would not cross the line.
A singing group from the Full Gospel Bible Institute Eston Saskatchewan will perform at Grace Apostolic Church Easter service at 10 30 a m on April 18 Rev Lorne Marshall a Bible Institute teacher will also minister the word of God The church invites all to hear the story of Jesus in word and song.
John Kerr guidance counsellor told Kelsey School Board on April 5 that alcohol is the top problem in The Pas and North America. He cited a study showing 65 percent of Scott Bateman students use alcohol weekly and outlined junior high guidance roles and programs.
Mrs Helen Joyal marked her 90th birthday on Thursday April 8 at the home of Mr and Mrs Gerald Lauze. She moved to The Pas from St Boniface in 1912 to join husband Joseph who ran a barber shop here. The late Mr Joyal was a local businessman for about 48 years before his 1966 passing. Mrs Joyal has three sons Claude John and three daughters Antoinette Lauze Jeanne Langner Clem Boyer and Fernand Joyal plus 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She says she is truly ninety despite seeming younger.
Planning committee questioned Town Council on converting Lot 20 Block 1 Wood Acres into a children’s playground or tot lot. Councillors supported the idea but urged resident input on placement with no buffer zone planned and letters to residents to gather feedback.
The 41st annual Pas Music Festival runs April 25 through May 1 with events at Kelsey School and M B C I. Speech Arts Sunday to Tuesday at 4 p.m., piano sessions 7 p.m. Tuesday, vocal and band Wednesday to Friday, a Friday morning workshop, and a Grand Concert on Saturday May 1. Admission 25 cents day, 50 cents evening, season ticket $2.50. Adjudicators Joyce Wilkinson, Richard Deig, Alfred Dobl, Barbara Elins.
Westminster United Church pastor Terry Shillington and outreach chair Ken Torbert lead members in promoting "Jove" and world awareness. They urge middle class Sensitization to issues beyond personal life through community service and broader social responsibility.
