The Public Service Commission approved a rate change for Parowan City affecting power purchases from Utah Power Company. Under the new schedule the city should see savings of up to $2,000 in the coming year, with prior annual power payments totaling $12,407.90.
Morgan B Edwards 72 of Delta died in a Fillmore hospital after a brief illness. Born May 27 1885 in Paragonah he taught in Paris Idaho Hurricane and Beaver and served on Iron County School Board. Survived by wife four sons two daughters a brother and a sister. Funeral in Delta and Paragonah with services led by local bishops and a graveside blessing.
State Engineer Wayne D Criddie proclaims the closing of wells from November 1 1957 through April 1 1958 to conserve underground water. All artesian and pump wells must be closed except those for beneficial use irrigation not included. Modifications may be granted if compliance causes a partial or complete failure of the well. Disregard is a misdemeanor and may be enforced by district court.
The Special Interest class earned a regional Cedar City appearance with a 12 woman band led by Mayor Bill Boardman and Leah Boardman. Eleven boys and girls performed and earned beacon light medals while a Sunday program included a lunch.
Mr and Mrs Bud Bauer of Cedar visited here over the weekend with the Calvin Robinsons. Mr and Mrs Ben Talbot and family spent their vacation in Salt Lake visiting their children Kent and Elwin and family. They traveled to Logan to visit Mr and Mrs Steve Adams. Miss Lake Hunt and her friend Carol Lund of Salt Lake City visited over the weekend with Larie's mother Mrs Lasea Hunt.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Rose of St George and Mr and Mrs Dallas Rose of Oklahoma visit here this week with relatives and friends. Mr and Mrs James Anderson of Kanab and any two little girls are visiting here.
Henderson Nevada resident Ray Lewis stopped at the home of Mrs Catherine Dun ton Sunday en route to Circleville for a deer hunting trip. He spoke about plans for the county hunt season and thanked locals for hospitality.
Registration for adult education in Parowan begins Monday evening November 4 at the high school. Classes run weekly for two to three hours with several zero or low fee options, including upholstery, carpentry, sewing, crafts, ceramics, and new offerings like lapidary and dancing. A $5 fee applies to crafts, leather, plastic, and metal, with a special Ladies physical education class at $2.50 if at least 20 enroll.
Parowan FFA officers Boyd Whitney Kenneth Adams Dave Matheson Ardell Talbot Dean Brown John Lister Douglas Lister attended an area officers training school in Enterprise. They met with Enterprise and Hurricane Chapter officers to discuss duties of their positions. Reported by Dave Matheson.
John Wilson of Ontario California has been a guest of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Barton during the week visiting and staying at their home.
Weather improved the deer season and most local hunters reported success as many filled tags. Deer were dispersed with few strong haunts productive. North Hills and Bear Valley fared poorly. The Hole in the Rock area yielded several fine bucks, with Joe Benson's 192 pounder the largest noted. Marlo Topham reportedly had notable catches.
DeAnn, daughter of Mr and Mrs Hyrum Boardman, will wed Stanley Slack son of Mr and Mrs Oliver Slack of Cedar City. They will exchange vows November 8 in Parowan First Second Ward Relief Rooms. DeAnn, a Parowan High School graduate, works for Mt States Telephone. Slack works for Lunt Heywood in Cedar. They will reside in Cedar after marriage. Weekends guests include Mrs Luella R Adams and Salt Lake City resident Mr Tanner, recently returned from Geneva, Switzerland after UN meet.
Mr and Mrs Scott Mathe of Salt Lake City spent several days here visiting and hunting with local hosts. The trip showcased local scenery and community hospitality as they enjoyed outdoor activities and shared stories.
Voters in Parowan City are urged to vote on Tuesday November 5th with polls open 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Candidates from both parties seek three offices for four year terms. District No 1 votes at Court House No 2 basement and District No 3 at the elementary school. Ballots may elect any two of four council candidates. top two win four year terms.
Mrs. Sarah Ellen Barton of Paragonah was honored at a birthday party with about 50 guests. She turns 85 on October 25, born October 25, 1872, and married Jessie Low Barton December 16, 1895. Her late husband died four years after their marriage.
