Change Announced In School Shows

Iron County school district announces a winter schedule of weekly picture shows in Parowan Paragonah Cedar and Kanarra. Admission rises to 10 15 or 20 cents by grade and the district aims to fund purchase of machines with any excess. The regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners is postponed until a week from Monday due to the County Clerk and County Sheriff being called to Salt Lake City to meet with other court officials of the district in convention.

Pindeer to Parowan Pioneer dies in Salt Lake City

Alr. Mabonri M. Steele Sr. a founder of Parowan and later a pioneer to Toquerville and Panguitch, died at his daughter Emily Steele Jensen’s home in Salt Lake City on September 18. He was buried September 21 beside his wife in Delta. He spent much of his life in Panguitch and was prominent in civic and religious affairs, marking the passing of another survivor of Southern Utah’s early history.

Tourism Boom Drives Hotels and Highways in Southern Utah

Southern Utah reports a 50 percent rise in tourist traffic this season with a burst of new highways and hotel projects. Officials foresee another near 100 percent increase next year as Zion Grand Canyon connections improve and a five mile side trip from VT Park offers Painted Desert views. Zion records about 5,000 visitors this year and Park Superintendent plans 800 miles of trails and roads.

Utah canneries run at full blast near season end

The final issue of the Payroll Builder reports thirty seven Utah canneries operated by the Manufacturer's Association are now running at full blast and will can before season's end. It estimates about $2,000,000 worth of fruits and vegetables will be processed and that farmers who produced them will be paid at least $1,000,000.

Mrs Mable Clark Hendrickson, wife of Hiram M Hendrickson, died October first at home after about four weeks illness. Born February 16, 1868 in this city, daughter of Daniel and Harriet Clark. Rate Of Seeding Winter Wheat In Dry Lands

The winter wheat seeding time on dry lands is here again and yields depend on soil. Nephi Sub- Station data show six pecks per acre on clay loam outperforming smaller amounts. Heavier seeding beyond seven or eight pecks offers no gain unless conditions are very unfavorable. On lighter soils a bushel or less may be advisable.
