Dr Paul Popenoe, head of the American Institute of Reston, speaks on problems in the home and family life at a large community gathering. The event includes a panel discussion and registration for subsequent meetings, with multiple follow up lectures and adult education sessions announced for October.
The Parowan literary club opens its winter season with a Saturday social at Mrs Angus's home. A dinner at 2 p.m. precedes the program featuring Gwen McGurr Augusta Lithan Thormiesk and others. The event kicks off a slate of winter activities led by club members.

Cedar City saw rain aiding crops, while parts of the valley remained drier, yet overall the rain aided harvests, reducing frost risk and boosting projected yields for corn and small grains, though hay crops were limited and winter prospects mixed.
Clifton Taylor chairs the local Red Cross sewing committee announcing a new material shipment ready for assembly for war area care and soldiers. Volunteers may contact Arvilla Mortensen or Mo Winne Whitney to help sew and prepare bags and slippers from donated blankets and old bathrobes for hospital patients.

Air and Mrs Wood Gier announce the marriage of their daughter Afton Jeannt to Captain Reéege G Enooth of Cedar City. The ceremony took place at St George temple on Wednesday evening Sept 29 with President Harold 3 ahow. Parents and relatives from Cedar City attended. Afton Jeannt, 15, attended Parowan High School and Phi Alpha Bets Sorority. groom John A Booth of Cedar City is a BOAC graduate who served a mission in England and flew combat time before joining the Army. He recently returned to the U S after Pearl Harbor era service and is stationed near Gainesville awaiting the couple’s future plans.
The West ward war choir reheares Tuesday evening October 9 following Mutual. All choir members urged to attend as the choir will be reorganized by the new Bishopric. Severe numbers to be prepared for the upcoming Sunday church service. Mr and Mrs Lou Burton of Los Angeles visited for several days with Burton's father John L Lowder among the family present.
A farewell social was held Monday night for men leaving for the armed forces. Delaine Evans and Norman Fiera head to different army branches, Clair Lowder and Homer Stubbe also noted as departing. The event featured songs by the Victory Singers and a spoken talk by Alten Merrill.
Attending the services were Mir Waren Pendleton and Mrz Albert Adams for Mrs Adams and Wee Pendleton's father Henry Webster Esplin of Orderville. Esplin, aged about six, a longtime cattle and sheep rancher, died after an age related illness. Born October 20, 1854, in Meph, he married multiple times and was a bishop and water leader in the Orderville area. He leaves fourteen daughters and several sons and siblings from Utah and neighboring states.
Mrs S A Burton reports word of Sergeant Mark Gudmundsen receiving the Oak Leaf Cluster for outstanding service on an aerial flight over Kammana Harbor Dutch New Guinea. He served on a bomber formation under extremely heavy anti-aircraft fire, scoring a direct hit and two rear poses on an enemy merchant vessel.
Bo and Mrs Art Jowder from Long Beach visited for a couple of weeks but returned Tuesday as Art left in charge of his market was called to the Army. Fae Dax and Decker visitors from Cedar City helped with publicity for the upcoming move to the country next week.
The OPA announces Sunday changes in processed foods and meat prices as butter and fruit shortages push point values higher. Creamery butter rises to 16 points with farm butter up to 10, while beef veal and lamb cuts see modest increases and several processed items jump in price.
Officers of the Farowan American Legion Auxiliary announce a membership tea to be held Monday, October 4 between 8 and 9 p.m. at Mrs Golda Guymon's home. The fee this year will be 150 per member, due to the purchase of a war bond. Eligible are wives, mothers, sisters, daughters of World War II veterans and wives of soldiers who have served or died in action. All invited to attend. The auxiliary project for this year is work for the Red Cross, with a strong membership urged to carry the burden.
War Raton Book Four will last about four years and be issued to over ten relief and bon persons via coupon distributions in late October. The OPA describes stamps printed on blue red and black paper, with a total of 384 stamps per book.
