Intermountain Journalism Conference At BYU Highlights Free Press

More than 400 delegates from 36 Utah Idaho Wyoming and Nevada junior colleges and high schools attended BYU’s 11th Inter mountain Journalism Conference on November 23. Key talks covered careers in advertising and weekly newspapers as well as war reporting on Bikini Atoll tests with BYU officials coordinating exhibits and demonstrations. Parowan High School held an assembly led by Ag department head Mr Brown featuring devotional music Elaine Whitney prayer Mr Penddleton vocal duet Clark and Collins Mitchell and readings by Gene Benson Marian Decker Clair Robinson. Two turkeys plus cakes and pies were auctioned. The basketball team lost 17 13 to Panquitch. School closed for Thanksgiving holidays starting Thursday.

A C to present Dear Ruth at High School Monday

A C Comedy Drama will stage Dear Ruth at the High School Auditorium Monday at 8 PM. The play, popular in Cedar City Delta and Beaver, features Nellie Matheson and David Arieson in leading roles. Reserve seats go on sale Monday morning at the high school office. admission is 75 cents for adults and 25 cents for students with cards.

Centennial Queen Chosen for Utah State in 1947

Callen Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Robinson, was selected Centennial Queen to represent Utah during 1947. Gus P. Backman led the Utah Centennial contest by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Aides named are Marie Burnett of Salt Lake City and Mary Louise Gardner of Spanish Fork. Utah County took first and third in the three placements. The queen previously held titles at Covered Way Days in 1141 and was a Freshman Queen at the University of Utah, recently named Utah Celery Queen. She will ride as guest of honor in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena on January 1.

The city clerk recorded a marriage license for Albert Stevens and Dora Holt, with details missing. The groom is the son of Edmund and (unnamed) Stevens, and the bride is the daughter of H. D.
