Perowan Post 60 Legion Starts Membership Drive

A Wednesday meeting of the Perowan Post 60 of the American Legion launched their membership drive. Most attendees pledged to bring one new member next week, aiming to rejoin the organization before year’s end. The group outlined winter activities including a monument grounds cleanup and semi monthly meetings to continue throughout winter.

Marriage Licenses and Thanksgiving Travel In Cedar City Area

The week saw marriage licenses issued by Sterns office and multiple Cedar City couples listed. Reports note 250 people attended a party paying for licenses and that families from Bunkerville and Reno traveled to spend Thanksgiving with relatives in Salt Lake City and Cedar City. Road mishaps included a car rollover near Las Vegas with minor injuries, plus local visits from Cruikshank and Day families touring San Francisco Reno and Panguitch.

Next Legion Convention Set for Tarawa in Spring

Delegates from the Amer ean Tesion district report the next Legion convention will be held in Tarawa next spring. Post Nav 20 will schedule the exact date around May if possible. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Orland Adams, Mr and Mrs W Clair Rowley, Mr and Mrs Jasper Cartwright, Mr and Mrs Tarl F Skougard, Mr and Mrs A B Matheson, Mr and Mrs Frank Lyman, Mr and Mrs Albert E Adams, and Mr and Mrs Bott Mitchell who attended the meetings and a banquet with the Legion Auxiliary.

Adams Refuses To Run For School Board

Rishonugh Le Adams, a former county commissioner, says he is not a candidate for District No 2 school board and that his name appears on voting ballots only due to a late filing. He urges new ballots be printed as he never sought public office and was unaware of the nomination until today. A petition had sought his name despite missing nominating deadlines, but the board vice president urged the technicality be waived.

Four New Civil Suits Filed At Clerk’s Office

Four civil suits are listed in the Clerk’s office over the past two weeks. Plaintiffs seek collection of 5346 plus interest and $500 attorney fees. another suit targets estate property fraud alleged by the administrator Vernon N. Duris. Foreclosure actions involve mortgage amounts of 4266.04 and 400 with costs and attorney fees.

Local attorney joins Cedar City law firm

Albert M. Marsden, local attorney, has joined Shay and Shay in Cedar City. The firm will be renamed Shay, Marsden and Shay. Marsden was admitted to the Utah bar in January after completing law studies at the University of Utah, bringing a solid groundwork for his practice.

1936 Auto Licenses Expire December 31

Under current statutes on motor vehicle registrations the 1926 license plates expire at midnight on December 1st. 1927 plates may not be displayed on renewed vehicles before December 15. Owners renewing may operate on 1926 plates until January 31, 1937 with proper fees. Applicants must obtain county assessor certificates of 1937 property tax payment. Lost certificates may be replaced for $1. Title transfers cost $1 with proper forms. All cars bought before January 4, 1937 fall under the 1930 registration. Citizens urged to apply for new plates soon after December 6 due to shorter renewal period. Mr and Mrs Edward M. Dalton celebrate Thanksgiving in Cedar City with relatives.

Opposition Develops In School Board Race With New Candidates

Opposition forms in two districts for the school board race. In district No 4 Mrs Bett H Leigh joins against War H Leigh after initial withdrawal. In district No 2 Hugh L Adams appears on the ballot alongside James C Robinson. Polls open December 2 from 7 am to 7 pm at Parowan and Summit grade school buildings. Residents registered in the general election may vote.

Thanksgiving Quiet in Parowan Amid Family Feasts

Thanksgiving Day passed quietly in Parowan with no public gatherings. Many residents dined with families while some traveled to celebrate elsewhere. An Harvest Ball planned for the evening was postponed to a later date due to a starlet fever outbreak.

Christmas Seal Sale To Commence Monday

The Parowan community will start the annual Christmas Health Seal Sale on Monday November 26 and run until Christmas Day. A 3 member committee led by Alice Lyman will distribute districts to volunteers to visit every home and offer seals to fund tuberculosis work. The appeal highlights per capita goals, local benefits like X rays and skin tests, and the need to raise funds for the state organization and potential sanitarium expansion.

Usual Trefy Growers Ship To Coast Market

Last week turkey shipments from Payowan valley went to Los Angeles via Southern Utah. The largest shippers were Messrs Then and George Hawley with about 280 birds, and Wilford Davy with 40. Most turkeys in Payowan valley are headed for the Christmas market.
