Utah Farm Bureau to Convene Years Convention

The Utah State Farm Bureau Federation holds its annual convention in Salt Lake City on November 20 to 22. Roger Fleming of the American Farm Bureau leads speakers including Ervin L. Peterson and Henry Aldes Dixon with Governor Clyde scheduled to speak. Registration opens at 8:00 am November 20 at the Newhouse Hotel, with sessions on commodities insurance purchasing organization and membership plus a Farm Bureau Women luncheon. More than 4,000 farm families have taken part in preparatory meetings as policy committees finalize resolutions for the convention.

Stake M Men and Gleams Set Meet

Final Tribute For Grace Gurr In Parowan Chapel

Impressive funeral services were held Monday at the Parowan Third Ward Chapel for Grace Oliphant Gurr 75 who died Saturday at the family home of a coronary occlusion. Bishops and family spoke. music included songs and solos by local performers. Survivors include husband Peter H. Gurr and several children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Orland Evans underwent surgery this week and is at home.

Associated Civic Short Agenda Clubs To Meet At Richfield

The Associated Civics Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah will meet in Richfield on Nov 23. The 10 30 a m executive board session reviews annual reports followed by a 2 p m general session in the Sevier County Court House. Read Committee Industrial Legislative Agricultural and Fish and Game reports are on the afternoon agenda. President Royal T Harvard will present the annual report along with the secretary. Representatives from multiple state and federal agencies will attend and elect an executive board for 1958.

Parowan City Council Brief Session Approves Coal Bid

The Parowan City Council held a brief meeting on Monday night awarding a coal supply contract for this winter to Evans Bros at 9.98 per ton with only one other bid. The council canvassed municipal election ballots and confirmed Howard Joseph Aich G Merkley and Morris Rasmussen as elected. A. G. Merkley Justice of the Peace filed a report and a further study was ordered. The council reviewed the new power rate structure from the Public Service Commission and instructed the mayor and hydro electric committee to meet with Southern Utah Power Co officials to seek a more favorable price for Parowan’s power.

Parowan Bride Becomes Mrs Stanley Slack in November Ceremony

Parowan resident DeAnn Boardman wed Stanley M Slack in a double ring ceremony at the First Ward Relief Society Rooms with immediate family attending. The bride wore a lace and tulle gown, carried American Beauty Roses, and was attended by Maid of Honor Annette Thornton and Matron of Honor Farrel Robb along with bridesmaids Karen Boardman and others. Best men were Paul Holyoak and George Slack, with Raymond Bauer and Richard Cripps as ushers.

State Highway Commission weighs Utah routing options

Hearings in Salt Lake City on the Denver to Cove Fort interstate route split county support. Southern counties back Cove Fort for defense needs while northern counties urged serving population centers with a northern entrance. Iron County Wins Suit To Collect Execution Costs

Iron County was awarded 1161.35 in a Beaver District Court ruling against Beaver County for expenses incurred during the execution of Branch and Sullivan, two convicted murderers tried in Iron County on a venue change. Iron County attorney R L Gardner said the claim covered execution costs, not trial expenses, which Beaver County did not dispute though its attorney John Christensen questioned the amount. Deputy Chuck Wells testified as the only witness.

Brigham Young University hosted about 500 high school journalism students for its annual conference on November 9. Dr. Oliver R. Smith and Dr. Earl C. Crockett greeted attendees, with Earl J.
