Parow SA Stake Holds Quarterly LDS Conference Here

The Parow Stake of the Latter Day Saints will hold its regular quarterly conference this Saturday and Sunday with sessions at 2 PM Saturday and 7:30 PM, plus Sunday meetings at 10 AM and 7:30 PM at the West Ward and Fast Ward chapels. Church committees and general authorities are expected to attend and explain the social security plan and church activities.

Daughters of Pioneers to Meet Next Thursday

The local chapter of the Daughters of Pioneers holds its regular monthly meeting next Thursday November 1 at two o'clock. Mrs George Lowe of Oklahoma is hosting in the Pioneer Memorial Buildings with a lecture by Hazel Pendinton. Invited are all community members and older residents.

Tarewell Party Honor Elder Rupert Hulet

A tarewel testimonial and party is held this evening for Elder Rupert Hulet of the Parowsa West Ward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hulet, who leaves tomorrow to serve as a missionary for the Church. A program begins at 7:20 in the chapel, followed by a Recreation Hall dance at 8:30. Tickets are on a voluntary donation basis, with proceeds supporting the mission. The Genealogical Society, Relief Society, and M L A candy booth operate during the dance. Elder Hulet reports to the Mission Home in Salt Lake City Monday at 9 o'clock to prepare for service in the Western States mission with headquarters in Denver, Colorado.

City Council Holds Postponed Meeting

The November council meeting convened after two postponements due to election and quorum issues. The mayor ordered two WPA projects worth about 7000 dollars each to finish the tree replacement and pipeline work at Farbay, canyon, and a flood risk at the power intake. A census effort was urged with post office card checks by November 20.

Diphtheria Case Increase Reported in State

A statewide health update shows diphtheria cases in the first ten months of 137 more than double the total for all of 1936. Dr. William McKay urges immediate toxoid inoculations in two or three doses, noting high virulence and urging physicians to keep immunization records for all children. Coach Ortaud Ward leads Parowan High School basketball on a practice tour to Panguitch and Circleville with a 14 man squad. Six seniors, eight juniors, and sophomores fill the bench as new rules speed play, including no center jump except start and end.

Relief Societies to Meet Together Next Week

East Ward Relief Society will join West Ward Society for their regular meeting on Tuesday next week instead of Wednesday. The literary lesson will be given with special readings. Raw ward officers urge all members to attend and vote.

More Fish Planted in Yankee Reservoir

Four thousand more fish were planted at Yankee Reservoir last week, bringing this season's total to about twelve thousand. Planted fish last week were two to four inches long. Roy Benson and John B. Dalton visited the Beaver State Fish Hatchery for stock and reported potential future additions. The reservoir has seen heavy fishing and many small fish planted this year, suggesting a strong next season.

Utah Urged To Enroll 27 650 In Red Cross

Red Cross chapters in Utah are urged by A. L. Schafer to enroll 27 650 members as the state quota for a national drive. The drive runs November 11 26 ending on Thanksgiving Day with six dollar chapters and Dow listing 16 162 members. Utah junior Red Cross has 67 480 junior members.

Scout Officials Meet in Cedar City November 19

Members of all stake presidencies AMgb counsellors and board members from six southern Utah counties and Southern Nevada gather in Cedar City on November 19 to boost Boy Scout interest. A Flying Squad of church leaders, led by Georga Albert Smith, will conduct the program with noted attendees including J Ballard and J Giles Ai. Also notes recent moves of residents Rogersons and Bennett family visiting in Vern Mortensen’s residence and Takevilew Oregon visitors.

Unemployment Census To Be Taken Next Week

President directs a national unemployment census to begin Tuesday the 16th and end on Saturday the 26th. Census cards will be distributed through post offices on the 16th and must be mailed back by the 20th. Fourteen questions will measure the employment situation and require careful, accurate completion.

Armistice Day Observed In Fitting Manner Here

Armistice Day observance here with early morning salute parade and public meeting in the morning. An afternoon ball game between married and single men, a children’s dance, and a well attended evening dance followed. Miss Arline Bentley won the annual oratorical medal, with contestants including Pam Dalton and Lyle Robb. Visitors Mr and Mrs L Welson Maredew came from Cedar City via Armistice Day.
