Utah to begin general fishing season June 9 drawing up to 160000 anglers. Cool opening weekend forecast with water conditions varied. 12 hatcheries stocking the largest supply ever. High Uinta access depends on weather. most waters open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through October 14 1956.
Speakers Hills Orton and Alma Lawrence addressed the Sacrament meeting in Sacrament Church. Sunday evening the Stake Bee Hive graduation occurred at Parowan First-Second Ward church with Summit graduates Connie Davenport Bonnie Dalley Mary Beth Dalley LaRae Farrow Francis Farrow and Doris Gail Fife. Parents attending were Mr and Mrs Jay Davenport Mr and Mrs Ivan Dalley Mrs Lois and Jean Farrow and Mrs Elda Fife.
Patricia Humphreys graduated from Cedar Jr High last Thursday evening. Donna Davenport and Itha Dalley attended a Primary preparation meeting in Parowan Thursday evening. Mrs Lonella Adair and Mrs Barbara Rollins with their Pioche Nevada visitants stopped by with the Harold Smiths and Adren Richards families. Kent Hulet returns home for the summer after teaching in Richfield this winter.
Mr and Mrs Oscar Hulet and Kent spent Tuesday at their ranch in Hamblin Valley.
Mrs. Ann Madsen returned from California and met husband Nels Madsen in Las Vegas. They stayed with Elmer Madsens in Henderson Nevada. Hulda Peterson visited her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Glenn Williamson in Las Vegas. She spent Thursday in St George and Santa Clara for a niece’s wedding reception.
Ray Farrow secures a position at Magna, joining the company’s staff. The appointment marks Farrow’s move into a role at Magna, with details about title and start date not provided in the text.
Word reached in Parowan of the death of Ilene Daily Dix in Salt Lake City on Wednesday. Born June 24 1910 in Parowan to Laverne Benson and Wilson Dailey, she married Farah Dixon November 12 1942 in the St George LDS Temple. Survivors include her husband a brother Emmitt Dailey and half siblings Elden Norman Gordon Benson Durham and Caroline Durham. Funeral services Friday at 10 am in Salt Lake City with burial in Paragonah Cemetery.
A Saturday reception in the First Se cond Ward Relief Society Rooms celebrated Mr and Mrs George D Merkley marriage on May 1 in Elk o Nevada. Mrs Merkley, former Diane Dalton, wore a white lace gown with a three tier skirt. Attendants included May Barrick matron of honor Shanna Dalton Colleen Swasey and Doris Anderson. Gifts were arranged by Mrs Iris Dalton and Mrs Norma Dalton. Also noted is the birth of the couple’s first great grandson born May 24 to Mr and Mrs Lowell Romberg of Paramount California, formerly La Rae Williams of Parowan.
Mrs. Malinda A Morris and Mrs. Lola Snyder of Salt Lake City attended the CST commencement last Friday May 25. Their grandson was among the graduates from the TDS Tetitute of Reliseon on May 20.
Ray Grimshaw is back home after spending several weeks in Milford where he was employed.
The recreation committee has bought a plot of ground from Merle Radford for a recreation area.
Cram Chamberlain visited town to inspect his home and farm. Mrs Ardena Dalley returned from wintering in northern Utah with her two daughters and a son and families. Mrs Olaf Aldredge, Mrs Marie Crawford and Dwight Dalley are noted. Dalley reports her first grandchild, a girl, born in Salt Lake just before she left.
Funeral services for William Wood, who died Monday in Salt Lake City, will be held Friday at 2:00 pm in the First Ward Chapel, Beaver. Born May 30, 1906, to Herbert and Jane Tanner Wood, he married Gladys Rollins in Parowan on April 19, 1825. Survivors include his widow, a daughter in Salt Lake City, his mother in West Jordan, a sister in West Jordan, and one grandchild. Burial in Parowan cemetery. Registered with local families, the item also notes a birth at Iron County Hospital and visits from former PHS coach and Mrs Dene Adams.
Helen Hatch was named president of the Jr Gleaners and Robin Lamooreaux chosen president of the JC M Men at annual elections held on May 22. Skits readings and songs were presented in Summit Ward Recreation Hall by each ward to introduce candidates. Refreshments followed as retiring presidents Margie Farrow and Kent Whitney were noted. Supervisors Golda Guyman and Mario Tophani assisted by ward class leaders and retiring presidents.
The annual Stake social for senior Aaronic Priesthood members and partners will be Saturday at 7 30 PM in the First Second Ward Recreation Hall Parowan. The event honors the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood and features a program refreshments and games with an appeal for all members to attend.
Parowan Gun and Rod Club announces a 1956 season long big fish contest with over 350 in prizes. Paid members may enter by weighing trout caught legally in Garfield Iron Kane Beaver or Washington counties at Ray Mitchells Buy-Rite Grocery. Grand prize is a three piece fly rod valued at 20 dollars with monthly tackle kits lures reels lines and special prizes for bait fly and spin fishing. Local visitors include Mrs Pearl Hoyle of Seattle and the Patten family from Springville with BYU graduation plans and news of a new grandson born May 8 to Mr and Mrs Robert Riggs of Provo.
Mr and Mrs Adlia Wood and family from Norwalk California spent last weekend with Joyce Warner and relatives. Dennis and Hollie Ann will stay six weeks with their grandmother. Mrs Dean Robinson of Provo and Eva Dean Lowder of Grand Canyon visited the Edgar Lowders, joining a weekend gathering.
Mr and Mrs Marion Lowder of Richfield spent Memorial Day here with relatives and attended local ceremonies marking the holiday.
Mr and Mrs Eugene Cena and family from Castro Valley California spent last week with the Ernest Ortons. Their son Bob traveled to Provo to arrange entry to BYU next winter. Marietta Stevens came from California to visit the Stevens and Tim mons families in Parowan with Decker Merril and Merril families from Provo.
Mr and Mrs Alma W Rich ards of Los Angles visited Parowan during the week. Mr and Mrs Ward Taylor spent a few days here with the Clifton Taylors and were honored at an at home last Saturday. Sunday evening they were special guests at a family gathering at the Taylor home. Mrs William Duffin has been visiting here with her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Farris Evans.
Mrs Alberta Brignan and family of Bountiful visited Albert Mickiens. The children will stay a few weeks while Mrs Prig nand is in Salt Lake hospital for a foot operation.
LaReta Decker wed in a home ceremony March 4 at her parents’ house. Howard M Adams presided. David Anderson served as best man with Sandra Decker as maid of honor. The couple then hosted a reception, and after a brief Utah Park tour, will reside in Lorenzo Idaho with both families in attendance.
Red Hill Wranglers local riding club schedules a second day of races on Saturday after fan and horseman pressure. Memorial Day races drew top competition with many well matched horses entered. Officials expect Saturday’s program to equal or surpass Wednesdays, maintaining the group’s reputation for high entertainment. Mrs Laurel Lowder Speet and family of Long Beach visited last week with her parents.
Gordon Halterman son of Mr and Mrs Marion Halterman spent a short visit here during the week. He is a hair stylist at the Biltmore Hotel in Santa Barbara California.
Mrs Mary Joan Bayles Jerome of Parowan joins others as de grees at BYU 81st Commencement Exercises on June 1. Miss Nedra Dalley daughter of Otto P Dalley Summit also graduates in the ceremony.
Among out of town visitors for Memorial Day were Mr and Mrs Walt Rowley from Las Vegas Mr and Mrs Pat Orton and family from Murray and the Rey Moore family from Salt Lake City.
Mr and Mrs William Bill Mitchell of Provo spent part of Memorial Day here with the John S Mitchells, sharing a quiet observance and friendly conversation.
Registration for the CSU summer session opens Monday June 4 at 8 am in the library. The program offers education and recreation courses with visiting faculty from UEA and Jordan School District, plus workshops in music, theatre, art, and photography. Highlights include trips to Zion Bryce Grand Canyon, a Mexico tour, and a July Northwest excursion led by Theron Ashcroft.
Kathy Smith wed Keith Skinner in a spring ceremony May 26 at the Smith home. Bishop Victor Robinson officiated with family members present, Wayne Heppler as best man, and attendants Gerrelyn Montague Gayle Edwards and Maxine Joseph. The couple plans to reside in Salt Lake City after a Las Vegas honeymoon.
Boyde Robinson is home with his family after 14 months in Japan. His wife Hazle Jean met him in Idaho Falls and returned home with him last Saturday. Zelma Robb hosted a large gathering Monday night for her daughter Sandra Stevens of Cedar City. Harry C. Martain and wife spent the past week with J. Lowe Barton in Paragonah.
LaMar Lister, the small son of Mr and Mrs Jess Lister, was struck by a rock causing a concussion. He was taken to the doctor and is now improving at home. Memorial Day visitors included Mrs Adelaide Lund and family of Salt Lake City, Mrs Jane Adams of Salt Lake, and Issiah Bozarth of Nevada.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Abbott and their family have moved back from Salt Lake City, returning to their former home.
Raymond Prothero remains in serious condition in Cedar City Hospital after an incident. Authorities have not released additional details.
Mrs Betty Lund and Mrs Jenine Manzione hosted a Saturday night bridal shower for Mrs Doris Williams at Mrs Boene Lund’s residence. Guests enjoyed games and tasty refreshments, and Mrs Williams received many beautiful gifts.
Mrs Emma Edwards hosted most of her family for Memorial Day with guests Mr and Mrs Merrill Edwards and Mr and Mrs Thomas Hemstreet visiting from Salt Lake City.
The group held its first meeting naming officers Geraldine Stubbs as president Helen Haycock as vice president Joan Decker as secretary Garna Decker as treasurer and Winon Holyoak as reporter. It is their third year of cooking with Mrs Plumb as teacher. Next meeting at the teachers home.
The Palettes of Parowan met May 29 at teacher Mrs. Clair Alice Stubbs’s home. They planned to make each member a swimming bag from bowling. lemonade and cookies were served, reports Adell Green.
Mr and Mrs Roy Hyatt and their son Mike joined Mr and Mrs Gerald Hyatt and were hosted by Mr and Mrs Jim Hyatt in Las Vegas last weekend. The gathering emphasized family connections across the Hyatt households.
Mr and Mrs William T Davenport hosted a full family gathering on Sunday. Guests included Mr and Mrs Kay Hansen Mr and Mrs Cal Smith of Salt Lake City Mr and Mrs Fay Montague of Payson Mr and Mrs Jay Davenport of Summit Cat Smith and her family of Parowan and Wilma Sarah and Hazle with their families of Paragonah.
