The District Court will convene here on Monday of next week for its second law and motion day to hear motions and demurrers in various cases. Probate and ex parte matters may be acted upon. The Board of County Commissioners will also be in session at the courthouse the same day as a board of equalization.

Luell J. Stanlift sues Continental Oil Company and district manager A T Farrell for 30000 alleging the fatal highway collision two weeks ago. Durham Morris and Willard Hansen are listed as the plaintiff's attorneys.
The Parowan hotel previously known as the Hyatt has been taken over this week by new management led by Jack Emery, a former Colorado restaurant man. He plans 24 hour meals and improved service, promising community benefits and improved travel and lodging options.

Samuel Orton deputy county supervisor sustained a painful accident while guiding four horses on the canyon road beyond Main Canyon. The shoulder was thrown out of place and later relocated by Dr. Clark. J Clayton Mitchell, Iron County bank cashier, attended a bankers' convention in Salt Lake City this week.
Census supervisor Walter Whitehead reports Parowan precinct counts show 1613 residents in 1930 versus 1641 in 1920 with city totals declining mainly due to redrawing of the city limits. Paragonah declines also noted from 449 in 1920 to 383 now, while precincts include surrounding areas and a few families moving. A separate note mentions Miss Cleo Mickelson and her relatives visiting Lovell before a mission.
Ezra Barton’s prominent dairy barn just west of Beaver burned last week destroying a top equipped facility in the valley. Officials have not determined the fire’s origin and losses run into thousands.
Miss Myra Dalton leaves the last of the week for Bryce Canyon to be employed this summer. It is understood that Mary Orton and LaMar Lyman will be there again this season.

The Blue Lantern dance pavilion owner Mr Monday Sunday was in town on a day of business, and Man has made Richfield home for the past year. Utah Service Station enhances grounds with painting and cleanup to attract visitors.
A group of locals made a one day excursion to the St George temple this Tuesday. Participants included Mrs Luella R. Adame with her son Tiny and daughter Grace, Mrs Nellie M Clark, Mr and Mrs Karl C Mitchell, and Mr and Mrs Claude Burton with their children.
Cornell Knight of the Stat Service Station reports a Pep and Vice letters convention set for the 34th of next month in this state section. About forty dealers and salesmen are expected to attend and a banquet is part of the program following a similar meeting last week in St. George.
A fire alarm was given Saturday afternoon in the Southwest corner of town near J. A. Hyatt's corral. Firemen responded to a brush and manure fire at the breakwater but extinguished it before any substantial damage occurred.
Iron County continues weed eradication program with chemical sprays. A power sprayer is in use, spraying Whitetop in Cedar vicinity, with plans to cover all infestations across the county. Property owners urged to report weed outbreaks for cost share. one third of expenses funded cooperatively. District Agricultural Inspector John E. Blazzard reports good results on wild morning glory and whitetop, with other weeds targeted.
A tentative budget outlines upgrades at Parowan High School including new sewing machines and boiler and electrical equipment. Domestic arts rooms will combine, new milk tester scales and drying oven added, and the ag department expanded. Physical and chemistry will be offered alternately for junior and senior students. Cedar City schools also receive improvements including a furnace upgrade at Cedar.
Announcement from the Stake Presidency notes the quarterly Blake conference of the Parowan Stake to be held in Parowan on Saturday and Sunday. Events include two Saturday meetings at 2 p m and 8 p m in the West Ward chapel and Sunday sessions at 10 a m and 2 p m in the East Ward chapel. General authority representatives will attend from Salt Lake City, names undisclosed.

Mr Wr Cornell and two daughters stayed in town for a day or two visiting relatives. He has spent the past eight years teaching away from home and will return to Provo after a visit with his mother and Mrs Jean Jones in Milford. Harold Mitchell and wife arrived from Safford Arizona where Harold has taught and will attend summer school before returning to Arizona.

State road inspector Christensen oversaw graveling of the road from here to Winn Hollow with completion expected by Saturday night. When the culverts are added, the improvement will extend toward Cedar City and oiling may cover Farowan City's main street, with at least an eighteen foot oil strip from Courthouse corner South.
The Navy Recruiting Station in Parowan was discontinued after one month of operation. Four local youths may join after passing final exams in Salt Lake City, then proceed to San Diego for nine weeks of training before assignment. McGovern thanks Parowan residents for cooperation and notes Navy access via the Salt Lake City post office.
The Panguitch community gathered Wednesday evening for the official opening of the Bryce Canyon Cafe. Proprietor P I Bruhn welcomed guests as Dr J G Jones acted as testmaster. Speeches by L C Sargeant Bishop Hanp F P Cameron Jr and M T W Ligeelow, plus performances by Kis Dance Band and Lydia Lassen, marked a festive launch with praise for the cafe’s modern dining room and ample seating.
