Court To Be Held Here Next Monday

The District Court will convene here on Monday of next week for its second law and motion day to hear motions and demurrers in various cases. Probate and ex parte matters may be acted upon. The Board of County Commissioners will also be in session at the courthouse the same day as a board of equalization.

Road man suffers shoulder injury on canyon road

Samuel Orton deputy county supervisor sustained a painful accident while guiding four horses on the canyon road beyond Main Canyon. The shoulder was thrown out of place and later relocated by Dr. Clark. J Clayton Mitchell, Iron County bank cashier, attended a bankers' convention in Salt Lake City this week.

Parowan Population Stays Nearly Steady Amid Boundaries Shifts

Census supervisor Walter Whitehead reports Parowan precinct counts show 1613 residents in 1930 versus 1641 in 1920 with city totals declining mainly due to redrawing of the city limits. Paragonah declines also noted from 449 in 1920 to 383 now, while precincts include surrounding areas and a few families moving. A fire alarm was given Saturday afternoon in the Southwest corner of town near J. A. Hyatt's corral. Firemen responded to a brush and manure fire at the breakwater but extinguished it before any substantial damage occurred.

County to Fight Noxious Weeds

Iron County continues weed eradication program with chemical sprays. A power sprayer is in use, spraying Whitetop in Cedar vicinity, with plans to cover all infestations across the county. Property owners urged to report weed outbreaks for cost share. one third of expenses funded cooperatively. District Agricultural Inspector John E. Improvements Planned at Parowan High School Next Year

A tentative budget outlines upgrades at Parowan High School including new sewing machines and boiler and electrical equipment. Domestic arts rooms will combine, new milk tester scales and drying oven added, and the ag department expanded. Physical and chemistry will be offered alternately for junior and senior students. Cedar City schools also receive improvements including a furnace upgrade at Cedar.

Road Graveling Near Winn Hollow To Finish This Week

State road inspector Christensen oversaw graveling of the road from here to Winn Hollow with completion expected by Saturday night. When the culverts are added, the improvement will extend toward Cedar City and oiling may cover Farowan City's main street, with at least an eighteen foot oil strip from Courthouse corner South.

Temporary Navy Recruiting Station Discontinued

The Navy Recruiting Station in Parowan was discontinued after one month of operation. Four local youths may join after passing final exams in Salt Lake City, then proceed to San Diego for nine weeks of training before assignment. Opening of New Bryce Canyon Cafe in Panguitch
