Devoted Mother Dies After Lingering Illness

Sarah Alice Davenport Applegate 54 wife of James G. Applegate and mother of eight died May 16 at the family home after complications from an appendectomy. She was born February 15, 1876 in Parowan and survived by her husband, eight children, two brothers, a sister, and several relatives. Funeral services were held at the West Ward chapel with a choir performance and floral tributes. burial followed with a cemetery dedication.

Popular Young Couple Married This Week in Parowan

Two Parowan young people, Wardahl Bennett and Amtia Ruth Ibyatt, were married Tuesday in the St. George temple. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bennett, is a Parowan high school graduate. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Hivatt, was given a trousseau shower with about one hundred guests. After a short stay in Parowan they plan to move to Oregon around June 10 where Dell will seek work with his brother Earl.

Legion's Baseball Challenge Accepted for Memorial Day

The Day Farms Company group accepted the Legion challenge to play baseball on Memorial day and added barn yard golf horseshoe pitching wrestling and boxing in the events. Some Otter boys may also join, possibly making two baseball games that afternoon.

IAd Breaks Leg in Canyon Fall

Bidon Adams seventeen year old son of Mr and Mrs W L Adams was badly injured when he fell from a seventy five foot ledge in a canyon while scouts explored for swallows nests. He landed leg broken between knee and ankle and bones protruding. He received first aid and was rushed to County hospital where surgeons expect a lengthy recovery.

County Commissioners Do Month's Business

County Commissioners meet after a brief absence and authorize road repairs and new project planning. They declined a fifty fifty bridge grant, shifted maintenance responsibilities, rejected a pension at ten dollars monthly, and authorized tax anticipation notes of 356090 while awaiting better terms. They also discussed Parowan oiling and future cooperation with Parowan City on street work.

Man Killed By Auto On Buckhorn Flat

Inquest verdict finds that Lester Thomas Stanliff was struck by a car driven by A T Farrell near Buckhorn flat on a Saturday night. The coroner's jury held the death could have been avoided and described Stanliff as about forty, injured when the Ford he leaned from was hit on the highway. The inquest was conducted by H G Parcells before Justice Wm Bet fridge coroner.

Boy breaks elbow in horse riding accident

Karl Orton thirteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Elisa Orten broke his arm when he fell from a horse Monday afternoon. Dr Burton treated him and he was taken to the hospital where the elbow was set and bandaged. The injury is serious but progressing. Citizens urged to help with company cleanup next Friday.

Miss Vance Resigns From Perowan High School Faculty

From the Country Superintendents office we learn that Miss Elma Vance, instructor in physical education and English at Perowan High School, has tendered her resignation and will not be back next winter. Miss Myrls Hibbert of Provo, a BYU product, has been employed in Miss Vance's place.
