Quana Jean Dalton of Paris was named President and Miss LaVina peer of Salina was chosen to Xi Lambda Tau in the sorority council. Aye Davis of Venice was Secretary as the incoming officers assume duties next year under the new council.
A cablegram from Private Gordon Whitney in the Panama Canal Zone confirms his assignment with the Air Caribbean Band. He started from New York in April and is now stationed at Allbrook Field in Panama. His mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Whitney of this city, eagerly await his return.
Paragonah residents share school dance events and family visits. Mrs Mable Paragonah School staff praised dancers, while families travel between Idaho Utah Colorado and New Mexico. Davenport and Holyoaks visit Lake Shore and Lund. others visit Bryce Canyon and Cedar City for Utah Parks work.
Centennial events sweep Utah with exhibitions and performances across venues from Salt Lake to Vernal. Include Kodachrome screenings, art shows, and stage productions such as Peg O My Heart and Blossom Time plus livestock shows in Spanish Fork and Sanpete.

Alma Lowe son of Ernest I. Lowe and Marcetta Glazier daughter of Reuel Glazier wed in the St George Temple on April 28. Alma served 22 years in World War I and works for Grand Union Tea Co. Mrs Lowe is a Cedar City telephone operator. They reside in Cedar City and friends wish them happiness.
A Saturday night reception celebrated Mr and Mrs Dale Evans soon after their marriage. A large crowd attended as the couple received many beautiful and useful gifts. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Angus Topham and the groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Clifford Evans of Parowan. They plan to move to California after school closes where Dale has employment.
Ruth Lyman and a Wild Breed colt roam from desert origin to home pasture. Mr. Rulon Lyman observed wild horses west of Lund and brought the one week old colt to shelter after the mother fled. Ruth feeds and tames the foal and plans to break it herself when ready to ride.
Parowan Junior Chamber of Commerce members focus on Main Street east side while seniors tackle the west side. Work progresses rapidly in the clean-up and beautification contest ending Saturday night. Impartial judges will award the best district improvement and the losing side hosts a celebratory party.
Mrs Clarence Benson of Parowan announces the marriage of their daughter Heta to Henry A Kenecht of Salt Lake City Utah. The couple wed last Monday May 12 1947 in Reno Nevada and will reside in Pocatello Idaho where the groom works.
Elections held Tuesday selected President Jack Stevens and Vice President Collins Mitchell. Secretary Eleen Davenport, Treasurer Vilo Adams, Magazine editor Ami Bessie Ann Dobrusky, Yearbook editor Gene Benson, and Paper editor Florence Mortenson named to posts.
Lyle Marsden of Parowan a BYU pianist will present a recital at 8 15 p m May 22 in College Hall. He studies with Professor Wm Hanson and will perform Liszt Rhapsody Appassionata Chopin Nocturne No 2 and works by Rachmaninoff Debussy Stavenhagen and Scharwenka. Addie Marsden, his wife, will assist with Michele's Song from Carmen, under Dr. Florence Jepperson Madsen.
The Ward Relief Societies will host literary lessons next Tuesday afternoon with Lee Ward leading in the West Ward and Hulda Hulet in the East Ward.
Local items report numerous births and family visits. The Whitneys welcomed a first child born May 5 in Provo, and Elden Chase and family visited Nephi for Mothers Day. Payson Hospital welcomed a mother and daughter, with both doing well. Various relatives travel to Spokane, Seattle, and Hollywood for visits, with multiple new arrivals noted and grandparent-tied gatherings. Events include a summer visit by Cal Decker, a Caliente bishop’s visit, and a Chili supper for East Ward MIA leaders and teachers.
The L D S Church announces a clothing drive to aid war-torn Europe. Members in both wards of the Relief Society urge donations of usable low heeled garments in good condition. West Wind and East Ward churches collect on May 27 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Raymond Prothero narrowly escaped death after falling from an electric light pole on a farm in Paragonah. He climbed the pole, received a shock, and was rushed to Iron County Hospital where doctors report he is recovering satisfactorily. He is son of Mr and Mrs David Prothero. another son, Lewis Prothero, was seriously injured at Iron Mountain with a crushed hand but is also improving.
Rosco A Grover, bishop of the newly organized College Ward at Cedar City, will address the 9th annual Seminary graduation exercises this Sunday evening at the Ei Ward Chapel at 8 p m. He brings extensive civic and religious leadership experience and has taught at the New York University and seminary posts in Nephi and Cedar City.
