Republican aspirants for county offices and state seats declared their candidacy at the county convention. Several nominees and incumbents filed declarations for sheriff, state representative, auditor, treasurer, clerk, and other posts. The primary on September 5 will determine the final nominees leading to the November election.
The East Ward Gleaner Girls prepare for the Binding of the Shea ceremony marking a milestone for the Gleaner class now permitted after chapel remodeling. Friends are invited to witness the event at the Dim Thursday service. Baptismal services are set for Saturday at 6 pm in the St Ward Chapel with Bishop Karl Mitchell announcing the program and parental invitations.
About eight hundred attendees filled the Parowan Stake Sunday morning session, a stake record and about 3 percent of the stake population. The East Ward Chapel, recently remodeled, featured new curtains, tiles, carpet, paint, acoustics, and a revitalized ceiling. President W Clair Rowley opened with a talk on Loyalty and Repentance, as music and remarks by stake church leaders and youths accompanied the service. An evening MIA program followed at Paragonah Ward Chapel under stake MIA officers.
Paragonah's Thomas and Mrs Robinson, aged 86 and 84, marked their 65th wedding anniversary on April 30. Family gathering at Samuel Abbott's home featured slides by Lee Spencer, Aunt Susie baking the cake, and notes of self-sufficient aging with their two children, eleven grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.
Ten members of the Parowat Literary Club represented their organization at the Southern Utah District convention of Federated Women in Kanab last Saturday. State officers Mrs. O. J. Kingston, president, and Mrs. Harold Christensen, vice-president, attended on behalf of the state organization.
Funeral services for Mrs Annie M Topham 87 were held in the Parsgough Ward Chapel Tuesday afternoon May 2 at 2 oclock She died early Saturday in Iron County Hospital where she had been cared for during the prior three weeks Bishop Gilbert Robinson conducted the service The choir sang Through Deeping Triula under D Amasy Stones direction Mrs Melva Sarton played the organ J Leonard Topham gave the opening prayer Speakers included Thomas A Robinson Mrs Barbara Adam and Marlo
A Parowan City meeting will organize a general committee to plan Parowan and Provo County centennial celebrations for 1951. Mayor E Ray Lyman leads the group with representatives from school, church, civic clubs and pioneers groups. A chairman will be chosen, and events will span 1951 starting January 13.
Dr L W Sorensen will give an illustrated Polio lecture Thursday night at p.m. in the school auditorium. Local Legion Auxiliary officers sponsor the meeting. He has secured an 800 ft film to accompany the talk. The public is urged to attend.
Kent and Marcella Tullis Mitchell welcome a baby girl born Wednesday at the County Hospital. Four year old Lana eagerly claimed the sister, with grandparents Mr and Mrs W Scot Mitchell and Mrs Hilda Tullis of Parowan. Also announced is a granddaughter to the Wm T Orton family born April 3 at the County Hospital. Parents Lewellyn Bud and Druela Orton Chamberlain of Cedar City. Brother Ronald, two, awaits the sister and mother. Grandmother is Mrs Ruth Chamberlain of St George.
Damave’s court hearing occurred midweek with testimony and witnesses. The proceeding examined key persons from Cedar City and related entities as the case moved toward a possible verdict.
Dr Learwn of the Vigh Stun Office of Pytile Tn outlines a Sunday class series beginning May 7 on child growth. Speakers include Mary McMultus, Cecil Adams, Zena Top ham, and Miriam Lister. Topics cover stages from newborn to two years and religious aspects like honesty and discipline. The program aims to help 18 plus guardians and grandparents discuss upbringing within the Latter-day Saints framework.
A community meeting for parents of pre school children is planned for Monday at the elementary school. Mary McMullin, supervisor of child services, and Mrs Fae Benson will discuss summer kindergarten plans and child adjustment to daily life, with a tentative start date of June 6 for the program.
Mrs Sopoia Lolokineki has been ill and will enter a U S hospital for a life saving operation. Mrs Madge Halterman Page visited Salt Lake City and spe t with the Bain Livole Matheson group. Family gatherings honored Mrs Madge Halterman and other Halterman relatives. Mrs Earl Bennett returned to Lake View after visiting relatives in Parowan and Cedar City due to her mother Jane W Hunter’s death. Funeral services for Obert and Grace Adams Tanner’s son Dear Tanner were held in Seita ku City. Georgia Ro Mitchell recently returned from California after visiting Dr Rodney Palmer, Myrtle Brown, and others in Oakland and El Monte.
The East Ward reopens after remodeling and restates Sunday schedule with meeting times for Sacrament, Sunday School, teachers' prayer, and ward services. Primary, Relief Society, and Mutual programs shift to afternoon hours, with Relief Society at 2:00, Primary at 4:00, and MIA at 8:00 on Thursday in the Ward Chapel.
Parowan Seminary graduates leave today for a northern Utah sight seeing trip. Group of students plus instructors Merrill and wife travels by private bus, staying Hotel Utah for two nights and paying 16 dollars 50 cents. itinerary includes plans to visit L D S Church office, State Capitol, Tabernacle, Temple Square, and various city sites with a dinner and dance en route home.
A local event at the Penn Seel lotte Metd next Tuesday features the Junior Chamber of Commerce staging a Donkey Ball game. Teams named include the Jyyeenas and See lar Chamber of Cvymere with two groups in play. The schedule lists many players and a price of admission likely under one dollar, with children's tickets at 25 cents.
May 19 event hosted by Parowan High School alumni officers invites all graduates and spouses. Dinner at 6 p.m. in the school dining room, dance in the gym afterward. Reservations due by May 14 with $1.50 per plate included for meal and dance. Election of officers to follow, current leaders retiring this spring.
The Parowan Chamber of Commerce will meet Monday at noon for a luncheon at Vaylor's Café. Many civic activities were scheduled to fit members and the public, aiming to enable broader participation in worthwhile civic engagements.
