Iron County reduces debt owed to the State Road Commission by four thousand dollars as lower construction costs and underestimates in requisitions leave funds in county credits. A twenty thousand dollar revolving fund loan, partly repaid last fall, leaves eight thousand still due, with the annual 1932 financial statement reflecting the balance.
The City council's May meeting considered routine city business. The Relief Societies asked for reduced electric stove charges, the Library lawn mower request was deferred, Paragonah agreed to renew its electric contract, and tapping fees were set at 15 dollars after initial frontage tax. The county will begin recruiting for reforestation camps likely starting Monday. Utah’s total quota is 2300 men with 1000 youths 18 to 25 with dependents and 1300 experienced in forest work. Iron County’s share is not yet indicated but likely small. A meeting with Gov. relief officials will set instructions.
King Hendricks head of the Speech and English Department at Branch Agricultural College will address Parowan High School graduates at graduation exercises next Friday evening. James Robb of Paragonah will deliver the valedictory address. The full program is at the bottom of this case. The exact number of graduates is uncertain and names may be added, with publication withheld until midweek.
A special Legion Auxiliary meeting will be held at the courthouse on Thursday evening May 11 at 7 o'clock. Important matters are to be considered and the poppy day program will be organized. All members are urged to attend. Mrs. Roberta Rowley, President.
Parowan High School presented the light three act opera Pickles at the recreation hall to a crowded audience. Music directed by Air Peterson with Muss Hibbert as dancer and Mrs Adams handling acting. Mechanic arts dept arranged scenery and several departments aided the production. The entire cast earned high praise for a very good performance by high school students.
Funeral services for Daniel R. Page were held Friday afternoon in the West Ward chapel with Bishop H. L. Adams presiding. Speakers included S. C. Mortensen Wm Marsden W. Leonard Evans and the bishop. A violin solo by Silas Topham and a quartet performed by L Walter Peterson Wim Mary Dalton and Della Marsden accompanied by a choir under Mr Petersens direction. Surviving relatives include his widow and children noted last week sister Mary A. Gunn of San Diego half brother Wm W. Page of Los Angeles and half sisters Ellen Taylor Sarah Jane Evans Cornelia Barton Elizabeth Murdock and Rose DeWight from various locations.
Irrigation engineer Arthur Fife reports two East streams deliver about 70 percent of their designated flow after a new division. Measurements show those streams get .53 second foot but draw only about 27 of a fraction less than 70 percent. Possible fix involves redirecting water across the field channel.
Notice to choir members invites all Paronsa ward choirs to provide music at stake conference next Saturday and Sunday. A special practice is scheduled for Saturday night at o'clock and attendance is requested from choir members of both wards.
Miss Myrtle Parker a 17 year old junior at the high school was killed in a car accident near town after a canyon outing with classmates. The Ford pickup overturned and Parker was thrown from the vehicle striking her head. others were injured but survived. Funeral services were held at the East Ward chapel with Bishop W L Adams presiding and many mourners in attendance.
Sea Colette was acquitted by a jury on grand larceny charges tied to two steers owned by Chris Ashdown killed last February 12 and shipped to Las Vegas Nevada. Warren Mackelprang was freed earlier by directed verdict and Max Murie’s case was dismissed for lack of conviction. A perjury hearing for Corlett bound over with $1,000 bond. Adoption petitions for Betty Parker and for Carl T Olds were granted.

In line with a post office department ruling, Postmaster FP A Clark appoints his brother Ly Watt as assistant since the first of the month. Mrs Clark previously assisted her husband. health limits Lyman Clark from heavy work, making the selection appropriate under new regulation.
Messrs. Frank and Thomas Taylor will open a cafe in the W H Gurr building now occupied by BicClellar's bakery. They are moving fixtures in though the present occupants will not vacate for a week. The McClellans relocate to Fillmore as school fit out occurs.
