Range Conditions In Utah Show Improvement Over March 1 1955

Utah range condition report this month shows 74 percent of normal, a two point decline from Feb 1, four point improvement over March 12 last year, and a four point decline from the ten year average. Deterioration is greatest in southern areas where brouth conditions prevail despite favorable winter moisture. February precipitation was about 60 percent of the February normal, lightest in southern regions but with deficits in northern and eastern Utah. Weather was colder than December and January, but overall winter favored livestock with enough moisture to develop new feed. The outlook remains bright for ranges in spring and summer, though variability in precipitation and water access persists. Snow cover late February aided wider range use, and soil moisture is favorable. hay supplies have been conserved due to a mild winter, with some concern over enough feed until new forage develops.
