Homer Durham Lecture On National Defense Tue At HS

Dr Homer Durham of UI will lecture on National Defense next Tuesday at 830 PM in the high school auditorium. Tickets for the Cham Commerce Lyceum course are 150 for adults and 75 cents for students with the aim to fund club activities and offer a top tier four event program in a community effort.

Parowan City Plans Cemetery Improvements

Parowan City Council Cemetery and Parks Committee led by C. E. Burton authorized extensive cemetery work once weather clears. Gene Benson Wins FFA Public Speaking Contest

Gene Benson son of Roy Benson of Parowan and a Parowan High School junior won the FFA Public Speaking contest in Orderville with the topic What Are You Doing About Conservation. He will represent the area at the State contest in Salt Lake City March 26 where the state winner receives a $100 prize and a chance to compete in the Western Region meet. Benson is an active FFA member and editor of the yearbook.

Grand Opera Rigoletto Presented In Parowan Saturday

The Grand Opera Rigoletto will be shown in Parowan Saturday night at the High School Auditorium. Tickets are on sale from the principal or the music department, with reserved seating at 1.00 for adults and 50 cents for students. The production is led by Prof Wm H Manning with Prof R L Halverson conducting a 28 piece orchestra.

Seminary class program and ward society events in Sacrament meeting

Mr Alten Merrill and Seminary class members gave a fine Sacrament meeting program featuring talks by Karla Hulet Adele Holyoak Lavonna Guymon Bessie Ann Dobrusky and Orland Evans. Musical numbers included a piano solo by Mariam Decker and a vocal The Lords Prayer by Jo Ann Mitchell. The Paragonal Ward Relief Society held a regular Tuesday meeting with a short play and a double trio number. Past presidents received corsages and a large candle lit Birthday Cake was displayed. A social committee organized refreshments for all. On Saturday March 20 the Relief Society will sponsor a banquet and dance as part of its 17th of March celebration at the Ward Chapel basement with multiple service times. Prices 25c under High School age and 60c for high school students and adults. The Leap Year Dance follows at the School House auditorium from 8 30 to 12 00 with Enoch Orchestra. Admission 75 cents per couple.

Parowan High School Athletic Squad Hosts Student Body Banquet

Parowan High School athletic squad and faculty were guests of the student body at a banquet in the Home Economics room on Wednesday evening, March 10. A turkey dinner was prepared by the Ramette girls under Mrs Alta Dalton. Max Dalley served as toastmaster.

Scout Troop 343 Visits Zion Canyon

Scout Troop 343 left Parowan at 4 30 p m last Friday with 18 members led by Frank Patten John Manning and Elmer Gurr arriving at Zion National Park for a camp and fire program. They held a 7 a m flag ceremony and after breakfast played strenuous games passed tests and hiked to Scouts Lookout Emerald Pool Narrows through the tunnel and Great Arch Trail before returning to camp for dinner then swam at LaVerkin on the return trip home.

Crow Derby Headquarters Named at Parowan Conoco Station

Saunders M. Clark local game warden and the Gun and Rod Club designate the Conoco Service station as the community crow camp. Hunters will check crow legs to earn a 10c bounty per pair. The big crow worth over $900 in cash and merchandise has been shot but others remain.

Iron County 4-H Leaders Attend Training School

Five 4-H club leaders from Iron County attended the annual 4-H club training school at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan on March 16. Cedar City representatives included Carl Cox with sheep and state leader committee duties, Elena Perry in Home Furnishings, Mac Fairbanks in advanced clothing, and Louis C. Maxwell with beef and poultry roles. Jean Evans from Parowan studied cotton and rayon finishes.

Sheep Shearing Demonstration Planned Near Cedar City

The county and state Extension Service with the 5. A. C. will hold a Sheep Shearing and wool handling demonstration on April 22 at Ross Jones's shearing plant two miles west of Cedar City. Escalante Valley Growers Organize Non-profit Association

About 33 farmers in the Escalante Valley plan a nonprofit group named Escalante Valley Growers Association with Thomas Gibson as president, Mr. Goddard as vice president, and Vern Frailey as secretary and treasurer. Wild Life Pictures Lecture in Parowan

Lee Kay of the Utah State Fish and Game Commission will present moving pictures of Western wildlife in Parowan on Tuesday March 23. Army nurse Adrienne Mickelson in Germany shock ward

Lt Adrienne Mickelson of Parowan Utah is stationed at the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt Germany. She joined the Army Nurses Corps at the start of World War II and arrived overseas in January. She describes meals, German starvation, sending food money to her apartment’s cleaner, and reports the hospital was originally built for Hitler's Air Forces.
