Leigh Furniture and Carpet Company of Cedar City won a 4979.07 bid to furnish moveable furniture, carpeting and draperies for Iron County Rest Home. The project, designed for 16 guests with future expansion, is near completion with final acceptance pending finishing details and a March 5 completion date. Guymon matriarch Zilpha Guymon dies at 88 in Parowan
Mrs Zilpha Ann Lowder Guymon a Parowan elder died at her home early Tuesday after a long illness she would have turned 88 on March 18 born March 19 1866 in the Old Fort at Panguitch she married Marcus Lafayette Guymon in 1884 his death followed in 1932 she was a longtime LDS Church member and mother of eight with 26 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren funeral services were held Friday at 2 pm in the Parowan Third Ward Chapel led by Bishop Karl Mitchell.

Jim Miller Wins First Place In Speech Meet
Jim Miller son of Mr and Mrs R Taylor Miller and a PHLS junior won first in the prepared speech at Snow College on Monday March 8. He spoke on the U S Constitution, competing with five students from Southern and Central Utah, in a contest sponsored by the American Legion Department of Utah. Miller belongs to Parowan Am Legion Post No 20 and was active in music, speech, athletics, and local church leadership. He narrowly missed combined honors, sacrificing points in the extemporaneous event despite high skill in the prepared speech.

Relief Societies of the three Parowan Wards will combine for the Annual Day observance on Tuesday March 16 with a 2 p.m. meeting in the First Second Ward, followed by refreshments. Snow Storms Bring New Hope To Farmers
Parowan received eight inches of snow with 84 inches of moisture by Thursday noon boosting farmers and livestock handlers. The storm followed a 12 hour wind event and delivered nearly twice February’s moisture, per local weather watcher Clayton Rasmussen. Temperatures swung from single digits to near 63 degrees in recent weeks.

Former Parowan Woman Mary Estella Adams Halt Dies
Mary Estella Adams Halt 68 of Enterprise and former Parowan resident died early Tuesday at her home from a cerebral hemorrhage. Born July 28, 1887 in Parowan to Hugh L and Juliette Adams, she studied at Brigham Young Academy and married Joseph Welt in Salt Lake Temple October 2, 1907. The Halt family settled near Enterprise in 1915 where she remained active in church and community work, including serving as Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association president.

Parowan to Host Region Six Annual Band Festival
Parowan will host about 1000 high school music students from Region Six on May 1 1954. Eleven schools from Washington Iron Beaver Kane and Millard counties will present bands orchestras and choirs with demonstrations throughout the day. The event ends with a large marching display on Main Street led by Wilford Young, with judges possibly including Ormon Weight of Salt Lake City. Box lunches will be provided to reserving students.
