Rites for Halterman Family Members Held at West Ward

Rites by Bishop W Leonard marked a Halterman family funeral at the West Ward chapel with veterans and friends present. Dignitaries included Elwyn, Lynn, Rub, Jack, Bud, Ralph and others as flags were raised and a bench honoring James Swood of Maywood was dedicated.

Army officer enrolls as pharmacy student at University of Idaho

Paul Dalton, son of Mr and Mrs Harley W Dalton of this city, was released from the Army Corps as a lieutenant and enrolls as a pharmacy student at the University of Idaho Southern Branch. Registrar Miss An- CANilien reports many veterans enrolling for the second semester, with 620 men and women overall. Dean John R Nichols notes no strict registration deadline but advises prompt action to avoid course cuts. Prewar male students outnumber females 3 to 1, contrasted with wartime 2 to 1. Mrs W L Adams and family plan San Diego and Oakland travel with sons Adrian, M and Karl. Mr Adams may stay until March or April. The annual meeting of SOWaR Reservoir Company named K Holyoak president, Bevan as vice president, and John Bentley as secretary.

Old Time Dance Moved to Next Friday by Wards

The East ward Old Time dance is postponed from tonight to next Friday evening. Bishop Jess Guymon announces the event will be held in the Recreation hall replacing the East ward play, which is delayed to later this month. A school body dance follows the Paro wan-Cedic basketball game.

Parowan High completes its season with a Friday night game against District champion Cedar City Redmen after dropping to fourth in the standings following losses to Kanab and Orderville. Sophomore games precede the main matchup as tickets sell out fast and standing room is limited. Dixie and Valley loom for state hopes with Valley playing Enterprise and Dixie seeking second place.

Red Cross Drive to Start Monday in March

WoOSetan Mitchell, chairman of the Red Cross Drive for funds in Marowan, states plans to start this year's drive on Minds, March 1, with the rest of the nation. He aims to deploy canvassers, divide the city into districts, and have everything ready by then. Marowan is asked to contribute 870 as its share. Mitchell notes last year's drive totaled 11800 but anticipates a hard time reaching the quota due to postwar lull, yet urges citizens to contribute substantially to reach the goal.

Sunday Evening Program to Honor George A. Smith

A Relief Society led program honoring President George Albert Smith will be held Sunday March 3 at 8 PM in the West ward chapel. At the Cedar City National Farm Loan Association annual meeting on February 15, Williamy A. Merrell of Beaver was elected director to fill the unexpired term of Samuel O. Memorial thanks and local updates from four county area

City Purchases Land For Race Track Improvements

The City Council unanimously agreed to buy two parcels near the race track for 100 dollars to expand stables and parking and move some facilities closer to the grandstand. A second parcel adds space for parking by reconfiguring fencing. A western grandstand addition may follow if materials allow. A racing committee and auditors were appointed to oversee the race meet and track expenditures, with plans also touching the city’s power project and an upcoming Salt Lake Tribune ad.
