Brown, director of the Poultry Producers Cooperative Association, returns to Utah for the annual poultry growers day in American Fork on June 25. He notes Utah eggs command top prices in New York despite general overproduction, with demand rising and potential for expansion without destabilizing market effects.
The Halterman farm in the valley shows a bumper alfalfa crop with 20 acres cut for seed and a knee high stand. Grimm alfalfa, untouched since last fall, yields nine loads of clippings. Grain crops, root crops, and potatoes near bloom promise good yields with ample garden vegetables for winter feed. A hundred jambouillet sheep head to an Ozona sale with Day Farms Co. stock and Lloyd White, and a larger sale is planned for July in Bragg Texas with the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Convention.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Mitchell and family visited relatives and friends in Pinto and Newcastle on Tuesday this week in company with Alice C. Knell of Cedar City.
Mrs. Hannah Lyman wife of Oscar M Lyman lies in a coma after a severe hemorrhage Sunday night causing a paralytic stroke. Dr Burton doubts she will regain consciousness though slight improvement offers hope. The 62 year old had been in poor health for months and was recently out for a car ride before the fatal event.
Stake Union meeting at 2 30 p m in the Cedar Second ward chapel on Sunday June 23. The Stake Presidency will meet with the High Council and the Bishops at the same hour in the same building. A representative of every bishopric should attend. Change in time and place noted.
Reports from the lia seed belt valley indicate a good alfalfa seed crop ahead. Oscar M. Lyman, a leading local seed grower, notes fewer burned patches and healthier alfalfa. Lawrence Miller and other farmers echo the upbeat outlook, though final results depend on harvest conditions and weather factors.
Local farmers pursue a commercial potato growing experiment with promising early emergence. Planted as late as the seventh of the month, the rows at Day Farms and H. L. Adams show neat, gardenlike plots and good growth from careful planting.
Preparatory to its opening the Blue Lantern pavilion is receiving cosmetic and structural upgrades. A new orchestra stand new paint higher rear walls and floor improvements are planned. Doab a’s orchestra will furnish music for the first dances on the third and fourth nights.
Iron Commercial and Savings Bank filed suit in district court this week against Chas Hansen of Leeda to collect a $525 promissory note.
Mrs Graham of Wollywood apartments expresses belief her husband will be found alive after the finding of his missing plane. She cannot identify the landing country and fears the rugged brush and dense terrain around a mountain camp hinder locating his body or him.
Parowan youths chasing sheep on Kanarra Mountain discover a wrecked Western Air Express plane linked to missing pilot Maurice Graham. Cedar City post and sheriff informed. plane found with mail intact, fuel remaining, suggests deliberate landing. Western Air Express may reward finders. salvage limited to the engine.
Mrs. Rhoda Jensen left with sister Mrs. Pearl Reed for California to improve health, taking Keith Reed along. Mr. H. Jeness visited with the J. H. Gurr family before leaving. Miss LaMar Lyman and Miss De Lone Valentine, roommates at the University of Utah, head to Grand Canyon for summer work with Utah Parks Co. Helen Rich and Agnes Williams, who visited Mrs. Paw M. Adams, depart with Williams to Panguitch and Idaho respectively.

Misa Vio Todd the county hospital superintendent departs Tuesday with Mise Larg Redd and Missea Mary and Grace Adama to spend two weeks in San Juan County. The Canadian visitor plans to sketch and tour natural bridges, visiting numerous relatives in the area.
Mr. Charles M. McGinnis, government geologist for thirty years, and RA. L. Fenton of this city, with others, were in town this week. They have been at the California mining property for several weeks and are en route to Salt Lake City.
Word reached his people here that June Topham, who had worked in Salt Lake City for several months, was operated on for appendicitis after an acute attack. Though unwell, he continued work until Saturday noon before being hospitalized, with latest reports noting steady progress after the operation.
Publisher A. Saunders called at the Times office on Saturday morning on his way to Zion to set the new tunnel road.
Kir and Mrs Claude Adams hosted relatives including Mr and Mrs Bourng Tebbs and sister Ruth Tebbs of Panguitch. Also present were Mrs Don Miller of Salt Lake City and Miss Evelyn Jones of Spanish Fork. Claude’s mother and sisters joined in the Five Bile outing.
Mrs. Leda Lyman Christensen is expected home soon to visit with her family. Parowan Auto Co employees are showing off new Conoco uniforms in a lighthearted note about the shop.
Mr and Mrs Chester Stubbs were away from Desert Mound at the start of the week returning after several months of work there.
County Superintendent Barlow announces a forthcoming Times article comparing local per capita school costs with neighboring districts. A public hearing on the school budget is scheduled for Monday afternoon, inviting interested taxpayers to attend and obtain information.
J L Lowder thanks Anthony Paxton and William Pritchard and Parowan residents for a 66.30 net proceeds from a benefit dance and picture show. The funds support a San Francisco trip to help restore his eyesight, awaiting Dr McGregor of St George who has been hard to reach after his son in law died.
Earl Hinterliter pleaded guilty to a liquor possession charge in Justice Rolto's court. He was fined $10 and the fine later paid after the hearing. After adjournment, Sheriff Leleh, Deputy Gardner, and a Parowan Times representative poured the jug's contents down the wash basin at the sheriff's office.
Farmers face thousands of jack rabbits causing crop damage this season. The Chamber of Commerce asked the State Department of Agriculture about a bounty, but officials ruled against payment though a poisoning fund may aid locals. An old time rabbit drive using mesh wire fences is suggested to trap them.
Parawan's baseball team improved in their return game with Desert Mound on Cedar City rode grounds last Sunday. Changes in personnel accompanied the 3 to 20 score, compared to 6 to 27 in the prior match. Visitors Mr Waldo Rowley Mr Albert Benson and Mrs Benson traveled from Caliente to spend Sunday.
Cedar City voters face a higher property tax as the City Council approved a three mill increase this year. The total city levy rises to sixteen mills with allocations for sinking fund interest library paring and recreation. Including county state and school levies the total tax rate is about 46 or 47 mills.
Pardwan presents a July Fourth schedule led by S J Whitney and B E Whitney with a Daybreak salute flag raising by Boy Scouts. Parade at 9 am, meeting at Sparta 2 pm, baseball at 4 pm, children’s dance at Blue Lantern 7 pm, and a pavilion dance. The evening features Uncle Sam speech, Goddess of Liberty, Orton orchestra, and an array of races and games. P A Clark named Marshal of the Day.
