Parowan Fourth of July Celebration Planned With Parade and Ball

Parowan outlines a Fourth of July program with a morning and afternoon schedule led by a general committee and the American Legion. A parade headed by FR Clark as marshal will start at 9 30 p.m. with floats and prizes offered. An all day program includes speeches, music, and dances at the Blue Lantern Pavilion featuring the Tom O Shanter Girls from Salt Lake City.

New York Governor Wins Easy At Houston Convention

The Democratic convention in Houston named Governor Alfred K. Smith of New York as its standard bearer on the first ballot. Smith secured 4335 votes of 1100 represented after states shifted votes. Utah supported Smith with its two votes. The platform favored law enforcement and farm relief as the session adjourned awaiting a possible vice presidential pick.

City Improves Water System With Spring Work

The city undertakes permanent repairs to the Six Mile spring area and replaces deteriorated concrete pipes with iron to enable a secure line to the storage reservoir. A previous risky move turned creek water into the system, prompting health officials to warn residents to take precautions against possible typhoid or other diseases.

State Road department official D Claut de Orie said oiling will start early next month along Parewan’s main street and other towns along the highway. The goal is to reduce dust and maintenance by making the road nearly as good as pavement.

Relief Society Social Delights West Ward Members and Guests

The West Ward Relief Society hosted a Tuesday afternoon social for members former Faie aan residents visiting town and guests. Mary Marsden welcomed visitors and crowned them. a ladies chorus directed by Prof Charles Engar performed followed by remarks by Mary Ward and readings by Lillian Adams. President Melinda Adams spoke on friendship with local solo by Blanche Hammond and reading by Florence Decker. Games, refreshments, and eighty attendees completed the event.

Parowan Students Attend University of Utah Summer Session

Four Parowan youths Anna Adams Fat N Benson Clifford Empey and Victor H Watking join ninety other Utah towns twelve states the Philippines and Hawaii in summer courses at the University of Utah. This year only six weeks of classes run instead of twelve.

Beaver Club seeks cooperation to save tourist travel

Messrs Kenneth A. Barton and John Bowman of Beaver visited Parowan from the Lions Club to rally Iron County support for boosting travel to Beaver Millard and Iron counties. They cited a misdirecting sign at Lavan Junction that sends tourists toward Richfield and plans to install a larger corrective sign with Iron County funding to counteract the error.

Boy Fined for Getting Beverage for Cedar Pals

Lynn Green pleaded guilty in Justice Morris's court and was fined 59.06 dollars and 30 days for violating prohibition statutes. He claimed he obtained the drink for Cedarity pals, with testimony from two neighboring men. A brief stay of execution was granted.
