Christensen Named Sheriff by County Board in Cedar City

County Board of Commissioners in Cedar City appointed Hal T. Christensen of the last place to be sheriff for the county to fill the unexpired term of the late Dr. John B. Carpenter. The decision followed Commissioner Bullock's recommendation while Commissioner Van Decker backed William M. Dalton, who currently serves under a temporary appointment, citing Dalton’s requests and local party support. Christensen pledged to perform duties diligently, secure his bond, and coordinate with County Clerk Howley to transfer county equipment.

Conservation Committee Attends Beaver Meeting

The County Sail Conservation Committee will attend the Dietrich Bell Conservation Conference in Denver on Thursday June 25 to learn proper land classification and to approve conservation preliminary worksheets. Dairy Company Warns Patrons on Whey Disposal

Mr Byron M Adsias manager of the Southern Utah Dairy Co warns patrons to empty whey from cans when returned each morning. Returning whey or skimmed milk to patrons of cheese factories is forbidden by law. State inspector C B McCullough reported the matter to officers. enforcement may tighten if people fail to comply. Dairy co urges care during hot weather to keep cans in good condition for cheese making.

Supervisor Urges Help to Prevent Forest Fires

A. J. Standliy, Supervisor of the Dixie National Forest, urges extreme care to prevent fires after several blazes this year. CCC enrollees and local volunteers fought two fires last Sunday, one near Mamb moth Creek and another west of Leeds, burning 1500 acres. All fires were checked by daybreak, but damage to range and water sheds occurred. Smoking and camp practices are blamed for most fires. smokers should use safe areas and fully extinguish matches and cigarettes before disposal. Camp should be at designated grounds only.

Mies Ruth Stubbs, formerly of Parowan, married June 2 at Cowley Wyoming to Ford Welch of that city. Ruth, daughter of Mr and Mrs Tiga M Stubbs, recently lived in the community. A 1935 graduate of Parowan High School, she was active in school and community life and from prominent Big Horn families.

Bentley Changes Plea in Assault Case in Provo

Mr. Bentley of Provo faced assault and battery charges in Justice Court two weeks ago. He changed his plea from not guilty to guilty and was fined $25 by Justice H. C. Parcells after a Monday hearing. He had earlier requested time to hire counsel and posted $200 bond, with further appearance required. Program Complete For 4th Celebration In Parowan

Parowan lines up July fourth events with a morning salute band music and flag raising, a public meeting after the parade, afternoon children's sports, and horse races at the new track. Floats compete for prizes of 7.50 5.00 and 4.50. The parade includes many local businesses and civic groups.
