Fourth of July Sports Program Announced by Legion
The American Legion committee unveiled a Fourth of July sports program with an events list starting at 2 p.m. at Recreation Hall. It includes children's races with small prizes, boys and girls relay races, a spear race on horses for men, and a 100 yard dash free for all over 16 with a $3 purse. Activities follow a junior baseball game between Parowan and Bearer on the grounds beside the baseball diamond.

Halterman Farm Looks Fine This Year In Valley
Halterman’s 170 acre farm in the valley shows strong crops amid drought. S. A. Halterman notes forty acres of wheat planted last fall on brush land looks bright. He irrigated once five weeks ago and expects to irrigate again as haying begins. alfalfa oats barley and potatoes also look good though a corn patch seems less promising.

Congressional committee heads to Cedar City for inspection tour
A ten member Horse huSesmmittee on Interior department appropriations with National Park Service director Horace M. Albright will visit Cedar City Monday morning for a breakfast and informal remarks. The group will inspect Southern Utah parks and related projects, meeting local officials and citizens during a brief 7 to 9 am stop.

At a county school board meeting the budget for next year was adopted and the levy fixed. The board re employed County Superintendent N J Barlow for two years with a 3200 salary and 950 expense allowance. Miss Role may also be re employed as clerk. Coal contracts went to Kenneth Buacfarlane for most sites and Davis Brothers for Kanarra. Parowan roof repair contract awarded to Johns Mansville via Cedar Lumber. James C Robinson was absent.

Indian War Veteran Thomas Robb Dies in Paragonah
Thomas Robb aged 83 a Paragonah resident since 1857 and Black Hawk War veteran died at his home after months of illness. Survived by three children Mary Prothero Thomas W Robb of Paragonah and James Robb of Salt Lake City his wife having predeceased him thirteen years. Funeral held yesterday with many visitors including his brother George and George’s son Orlo of Price.

Parowan teams faced Cedar opponents in Cedar City with the Bee Five girls dominating 14 to 11. The Parowan men led 13 to 6 before darkness halted Cedar eyeing a seventh inning rally, ending 13 to 12. School Levy Set At Fourteen Mills Following Budget Adoption
County school board after a special meeting approved a fourteen mill levy to raise 114 660 for the coming year. The increase covers reduced county valuations, though expenditures are cut overall. Budget totals 170 881 65 with funds allocated to debt service operating costs and delinquency estimates. The balance comes from state and forest reserves.

Miss Florence Decker of Parowan is selected as Pageant Reader for the July 4 Cedar City pageant. Ira N. Hayward says a director for Parowan will be chosen today. The Declaration of Independence group will be assigned to Parowan. Wm. H. Manning directs the Indian episode using real village Indians from Cedar City. Twenty five dancers under Wilma L. Macfarlane join as Spirits of the Land. Other units include Columbus discovery, Pilgrim group, Civil War group, and the Enoch Pioneer group. Parley Garson of Dixie Power Co will light the stage with flood lights and colored effects.

Union Meeting Set for Cedar Sunday
A church union gathering is planned for next Sunday, June 28, at 2 30 p m in the Cedar 5 Second Ward chapel. The Magh Council and Bishopus and all auxiliaries except the Primary will convene, with the Leler Society meeting in one group for a special testimony. The Stake Presidency has prepared a special outline for both divisions of the priesthood for the summer months to be presented to bishops and High Council members at the union meeting.

Paragonah Leader Dies Suddenly During Comrade's Funeral
Paragonah, Utah, resident David Albert Lamoreaux died yesterday at a funeral service for Thomas Wroob. Lamoreaux suffered an apparent stroke while speaking, carried from the pulpit, and died before reaching outside. Born November 19, 1848 in Iowa, he later moved to Utah and served as town board president and a longtime Republican precinct chairman. Funeral arrangements to be detailed in next issue.

Bad check writer gets 30 days and $10 fine
Mack Morris of St George to serve a 390 day sentence plus a $10 fine after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor. Cedar precinct Justice Leigh imposed the sentence tied to alleged forged checks. Court Hears Many Divorce Matters In District Court
The district court session led by Judge Cox heard four divorce related matters. Mary Emily John was granted an interlocutory divorce from Lawrence Sylvester John with restoration of her maiden name Jones and costs. Vivien Roundy Pendleton received $50 suit money and $30 monthly temporary alimony pending trial. Irene G. Lindsey was awarded $54 suit money and $45 monthly temporary alimony. Klomer W. Esplin connected to a prior order of temporary alimony requested relief. his income was $69 monthly as a sheep herder with irregular recent earnings. The court modified prior alimony orders accordingly.
