Clean Cultivation Controls Poverty Weed in Utah Fields
County agricultural agent outlines poverty weed, a perennial weed from western North America found across Utah. It spreads by seeds and underground rhizomes, tolerates saline soils, and reduces yields. Effective control combines crop rotation, clean cultivation, timely spraying with 2 4 D, and occasional use of sterilants, requiring several years and suitable crops like winter wheat or barley to outcompete the weed.
