The School Board reviewed the tentative budget for 1946 47 at a public hearing, with Superintendent Wright detailing expenditures and revenue. The proposed total covers salaries, debt service, capital outlay, and program costs, funded by district and county taxes plus state funds and remaining balances.
Sheridan Fisch district road engineer announces a state crew is surveying proposed Bone Hollow route linking Iron and Garfield counties. The project aims for an all weather road, with the favored path via Bone hollow for federal and state aid this year, amid long held local debates. Kent Mitchell arranged to buy the Crawford home on lower Main Street as they plan to move to Cedar City, and visitors Judy and Allan Morris, grandchildren of Maude Parcells, are staying with relatives.
Years with one Saturday school during the winter the Board also approved the following teachers for next year Barbara Rasmussen Florence C Johnson J Ordan Washburn Anna Jean Armstrong Leora H Thornton Nellie Jensen Beverly Jensen and Barbara Williams.
Parowan Mayor J F Hay Lyman proclaims Tuesday June 25 1946 a half holiday from 10 to 1 for citizens to help clean and repair the Race Track Grounds ahead of summer and fall events including the American Legion Race Meet July 18 20 1948 and Parowan County Fair September 6 7 1946.
John Samuel Penn Barton age 83 longtime Paragonah resident died of heart ailment last Saturday. Funeral in Paragonah Ward chapel featured Bishop J Leonard Topham and choir, with multiple musical numbers and speakers. Survived by wife Martha Williamson Barton and ten children with grandchildren and great grandchildren. buried in Paragonah cemetery. Also note: a Paragonah child with sleeping sickness treated in Salt Lake City hospital.
The Parowan general committee appointed by Mayor E Ray Lyman to organize the Fourth of July events has formed subcommittees and outlined a daybreak salute parade program at 9 am with prizes, a 10 am program, 3 30 pm sports, and an evening dance at the Brown Derby. Bert Benson, a former Parowan resident now of Salt Lake City, dies at 64. services held in Salt Lake City. Also noted are a Parowan to Logan trip by Mrs Robinson and her son, with Mrs Wexells joining later, to visit relatives.
Sutherland Utah resident and former Parowan girl Millie Jensen Ogden died at her son Nealy Ogden’s Salt Lake City home aged 66. Born September 4, 1880 she lived in Parowan Richfield Delta and finally Sutherland. Survived by husband five sons including Nealy Ogden Armond Ivo Marven and Cleo Ogden and nineteen grandchildren with several Jensen brothers and sisters surviving. Funeral services held in Sutherland LDS chapel with burial there.
The Daughters Of Utah Pioneers camp will hold its final meeting of the season on Thursday night June 27 at 8:30 at Lizzie Adams home. The biannual election of officers will be held after the lesson on The Mormons in Nevada by Gwen Gurr. Nominees include Eva Bennett, Cora Rowley, Hulda Hulet, Mabel Williams, Jane Richards, Roberta Rowley, Lizzie Adams, Dorothy Ward, Alice Halterman, Minnie Lowder, Grace Gurr, Della Marsden, Roberta Rowley, Melita Fenton, and Arvilla Halterman.
