The Parowan City Council unanimously hires Robert Robinson as city electrician with a raise to 375 dollars monthly for a six day week and car use. former electrician Howard Ward resigned to join Iron Mines. The council also appoints W Scott Mitchell as city building inspector and Heary Hall as cemetery caretaker. Head on Collision in Parowan Canyon Wrecks Two Cars
A head on collision on Forest road near Six-Mile Parowan Canyon damaged two cars, a late model Kaiser driven by Elmer Mitchell and a 1947 Dodge driven by Howald Robinson of Paragonah. Mrs. Florence B. Denson, a passenger in the Mitchell car, twisted her ankle. Mrs. Robinson sustained a head injury but all others were uninjured. Deputy Arch Benson attributed dust and road narrowness as causes. Estimated damage $500 per vehicle.

Mr. Grant Jones was seriously injured at Iron Mines last Friday while operating a wagon. His right third finger was caught in machinery, breaking bones and nearly severed. Rushed to Cedar City for stitching, he was released home and remains unable to work, but is progressing as expected.

Funeral for William A. Firmage 74 in Beaver
Services for William A. Firmage 74 father of Mrs Carl Kummler Parowan were held in the theater Third Ward Monday Air. He died Wednesday in a Cedar City hospital of a heart ailment. He managed the Mien age theatre in Beaver for 26 years and was a Beaver Stake Mind Priests residency member with prior service on the Sunday School board and as elder quorum president. Survived by widow Mrs Pauline West Firmage of Beaver two sons two daughters nine grandchildren two great grandchildren four brothers and one sister.

The Clana Matheson family gathered in Parowan last week to honor forebears David Matheson Sr. and Alexander Matheson with a social at Old Rock Church and gatherings at Five Mile and Gutinga. Brown Bear Sighted In Parewan Mountains
Clarence Pendleton and the Mario Tophaw family encountered a young brown bear near the roadside while returning from Pendleton ranch. The bear headed toward the sheep herd, fled from headlights, and was tracked by Pendleton and his dog but lost. Reports indicate a second predator in Kanarra Cedar and Rummit mountains, with seven inch tracks suggesting a young bear. Local trappers have not located it.

Local Couple Called To Serve In the Hawaiian Islands
Mr and Mrs Peter Gurr prominent members of Parowan society have received a call from the Presidency of The Church to fulfill a two year mission in the Hawaiian Islands. Both hold records of activity in Latter Day Saint organizations including Sunday School wards, music departments, Legion Auxiliary Daughters of Utah Pioneers. They will report to the Mission Home in Salt Lake City August 19 for two weeks training before sailing.

Parowan groups organize Independence Day with American Legion Post No 20 leading the morning program and parade honoring veterans. Red Mill Wranglers stage a race meet and show, plus a dance with a Western Swing band. Wards and auxiliary clubs run concessions to fund a new church addition. more schedule details to come.
Parewan Couple To Lead Dalton Family Organization
Mr and Mrs Harley W Dalton returned from a reunion of John Dalton Sr and Elizabeth Cooker Dalton descendants held June 13 in Liberty Park. About 175 attended with a program business meeting and luncheon. Dalton was elected president and Mrs Dalton secretary of the extended Dalton family group. J Clayton Mitchell was named chair of the finance and research committee. Mrs Dalton won a prize for the most complete Dalton history.

Parowan F H A Chapter Wins State Contest
Parowan High School Future Farmers of America chapter won first place in Utah’s state contest run by the Utah Institute of Farm Cooperatives. Four delegates and their leader will represent Utah at the National Convention of the American Institute of Cooperatives in Columbian, Milistur from August to 18. The chapter’s record book and year’s activities were judged, with national prizes including a possible up to one thousand dollar travel grant. A Utah delegation fund of 104 dollars was allotted by the State Cooperatives Council.
