Parowan Sailor and Miss Steele Wed At Home Ceremony

Accil Bernarr Adams Seaman First Class and Miss Madilyn Lorraine Steele married in a quiet ceremony at Bishop Jess W. Guymon’s home on Wednesday evening. Adams, a Parowan High School 1943 graduate, has served in the Navy two years. Steele, from Long Beach California, works as a stenographer at Naval Drydocks. They plan to remain until Monday before returning to Seal Beach and resume duties. A reception was held at the Adams home with family members present.

Orrock to Teach Phys Cation at Beaver High

Lamont Thornocel signs to teach mathematics and physical education at Beaver High next year. He will not coach and plans to move with his family by September if Beaver sale offers favorable terms. Harold Mittenel family members arrived from Salford to supervise livestock and farm interests.

Opening of 1945 Utah fishing season today

June 15 starts the general fishing season in Utah with fair weather forecast. Most state waters open while higher elevation streams remain closed. Heavy plantings hit southern lakes with Panguitch Lake Navajo Lake and Mammoth Creek favored for best fishing this year. Roads into canyons may still be rough. Cedar Mountain route to Navajo Lake is open and passable.

Missionary Reports Planned for Both Wards Next Sunday

Wedding bells for Joan Ward and Theron Wheatley in Salt Lake

Bonded notices report the marriage of Joan Ward to Theron Wheatley Seaman First Class U S Navy on June 11 in the Salt Lake temple officiated by Elder Benson. Joan a Parowan High School graduate worked for the War Department and at the LDS business college. Theron served eleven months in the Pacific and in the Atlantic aboard USS Endicott. He will transfer to Norfolk after a 30 day leave. Cedar Cement Plant Changes Hands at Cedar City

Chester Jones purchased the Usemore Cement Products plant from Ezra C. Thompson and will operate it under the Southern Utah Brick and Cement Company. He plans to market products across southern Utah and Nevada as materials arrive. The Southern Utah Dairy Co milk handling plant also saw extensive repairs including new drains and a new floor in the cheese making area.

Milford Soldier Arthur M Peterson Dies on Okinawa

News from Milford Utah confirms PFC Arthur Magnus Peterson son of Edna Peterson died on Okinawa May 25 after three years in the 27th Infantry. Born 1928, he enlisted 1941, trained at Camp Roberts and Ford Ord, served in Pearl Harbor, Gilberts, Saipan, and Okinawa. Memorial services are set for Sunday June 24 at the East ward chapel.

Local women attend wartime public health conference in Salt Lake City

Mrs Arthur Joseph, Mrs LJ Adams, Health Nurse Alice Zarton of this city and Mrs Fae D Dix of Cedar City attended the Utah Public Health Association's Third Wartime conference at the Newhouse hotel in Salt Lake City on May 28 and 29. They reported valuable information to aid county work and emphasized early medical care and clinic cooperation to curb diseases such as tuberculosis and rheumatic fever. Sgt Kent Mitchell received Army discharge under the point system and returned home, the first local to do so.

Iron County Weed Committee Meets to Combat Noxious Weeds

Iron County Weed Committee met in Cedar City to discuss weed infestation rates. Agricultural Inspector Maxfield reported 80 percent of Cedar City lots harbor noxious weeds, mainly wild morning glory, with statewide infestations high. The panel urged owners to seek county assistance, highlighted six target weeds, and authorized using the weed killer Weedone to expand control efforts.
