Parowan MIA male chorus directed by Engar won first place at the Salt Lake City semi finals and Tabernacle finals, beating six other choirs. Mrs. Watkins assisted at the piano, with the choir later hearing praise on KSL radio.
The community kindergarten opened this week with about twenty children attending led by Miss Verena Stevens of Salt Lake City. She praised the cohort and noted ample room for more enrollments, urging parents to consider sending their kids now as the fall term begins.
Mr Heber Rowiey father of Mrs Jewel Wilcock and former Parowan resident died in Frovo last Saturday after being struck by a car two or three days earlier. He had a truck with berries to market when the engine failed and a passing car struck and dragged him for a distance. The Times extends sympathy to his bereaved family.
Delegates cast 870 for Secretary Herbert Hoover of 1089 votes in Kansas City on the first ballot to win the Republican presidential nomination. New York and Pennsylvania gave full delegations, Utah split with two for Watson. The convention adjourned after unanimously supporting Hoover and set today’s session to name the vice president. Vermont signaled support if Coolidge wished to join, while others largely declined. Report by H. C. Parcells.
The court took the case of Stanley McKnight from the jury and directed a verdict of not guilty after a tumultuous trial for fornication. The proceeding featured quarrels, barrister clashes, and a dismissed juror for speaking with witnesses. A separate charge of bastardy was filed, with bond set for another trial.
F W Hyatt and Ben Skougard agreed this week to transfer Skougard half ownership of the U Get Service Station. Hyatt now runs the business including the station and campground while Skougard plans to return to sheep farming. Health and workload factors prompted the change.
Edward and Charles Pent ley host their brother Fred visiting from Colorado after thirty six years. Mrs Blanch Dalton Hammond of Monticello visits with relatives and friends after attending the Salt Lake City Primary Jubilee. William Woolley and family visit his mother Mrs Er Wolfley. Isaac Lemmon visits relatives. Jick brings daughters Cora and Daisy who travel to Salt Lake City to meet Theida returning from a mission.
Messie Argill Halterman and Lol lin Orton left this morning for the training camp at Ft. Douglas. They traveled as passengers with Melyarn Hyatt in James Green's car.
Word arrives that Byron Adams graduated this month from Tempe High School Arizona with high honors earning a full scholarship to Phoenix Junior College. Byron is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs James L Adams.
Mr and Mrs R L Fenton are in Salt Lake City on a business trip this week. It is understood Mr Fenton plans to take the state board of pharmacy examination. Success to you Bob.
Messrs Henry and John Rasmus senior and John Rasmus senior's wife of Colorado and Mrs Ella Rasmussen Slaughter of California are visiting this week to see their mother Mrs Metta Rasmussen.
Deputy sheriff Alvin Benson transported a prisoner to the state penitentiary at week’s end and returned Monday. Lena Benson Johnson visits her father R. H. Benson and relatives. Marion Gudmundsen and her sons left for Salt Lake City to join husband and daughter Shirley this summer. Hal Farr campaigned in the county for the Republican attorney general nomination, with Cora Hulet assisting her brother Clair at the county treasurer’s office.

Frank and Orland Ward return from Bozeman where the Montana Bobcats cap tain Frank Ward led another strong season. A letter from the New York Athletic Club invites the Bobcats to open next season in New York, with Coach Romney and Coach-elect Dyche undecided but inclined to accept. The 1928 team’s strong play fuels plans for a 1925 29 season and a possible New York trip.
Mrs. Fae N. Benson left last week to attend summer school at the university. The note indicates she will study during the summer term, continuing her education away from home.
Mr J A Evens was among Parawan people in Salt Lake City last week. Mr and Mrs Clair Mortensen visit with Clair's kin from Provo and spend part of their vacation there.

The board discussed vital statistics appointees, considered a protest from State Board of Health, and directed letters seeking recommendations. The Auditor and Treasurer were authorized to sell delinquent tax property at private sale with minimum costs. Work on the New Castle wash bridge begins. The county will not participate in the State fair this fall. Indigent fund monthly allowances and county claims were approved. The Board finished as Board of Equalization with a few adjustments and abatements.
