Funeral Services Held For John Peter Bayles

John Peter Bayles 81 died at home and funeral services were held in Parowan First Ward Chapel under Alma Evans. A prominent Parowan businessman and farmer, he helped found Parowan Times Publishing Co. and the Parowan Garage, owned the Parowan Meat Market, and served on the Bank of Iron County board. He was survived by three sons, three daughters, and 22 grandchildren. interment followed at Parowan City Cemetery.

Angel resigns as Parowan City Marshal

William E. Angel, serving five months as Parowan City marshal, turned in his resignation to Mayor Howard Joseph on Tuesday. The move becomes effective July 15 and Angel cited entirely personal reasons for stepping down.

Dedication of the new Bryce Canyon National Park visitor center is set for Saturday June eighteenth at two thirty in the afternoon. The event is sponsored by the Five County Organization and the National Park Service with dignitaries including Governor Geo D. Clyde and Secretary of the Interior Fred A. Seaton. The Cedar City Miriam's Style Shoppe branch changed hands this week with J. W. Moore confirming the sale. Clark Roneau of Cedar City and Dizon Terry of Springdale acquire the business, which has operated at El Escalante Hotel for two years. Nearby residents and family members gathered as Luella Adams marked her 85th birthday on Thursday June 16.

Big Game Board Announces Five Annual Meetings Schedule

Utah Board of Big Game Control lists five public meetings for input on the 1960 hunts. Dates span Kanab, Richfield, Price, Salt Lake City and Ogden with 8:00 p.m. starts. Chairman Harold Crane invites observers and info providers from districts across the state. Executive sessions will finalize regulations after public and committee recommendations are read. Needing attendance, observers may submit facts and recommendations to help set the hunts.

Hopefuls File For County State Offices

Earl Bunn incumbent two year County Commissioner is among three filing for a commission post this week. A. C. Hatch Republican filed for two year term and James Heywood Republican filed for four year term. Re-election or replacement targets are Earl Bunn and Gordon Moyle who filled the unexpired term of Myron Higbee after resigning. Charles R. Hunter Republican also filed for State Senator. Deadline shifts to July 11 due to Sunday.

Parowan groups coordinate to aid tourist booth plan

The Parowan Coordinating Council outlined duties for community groups to support a new tourist booth on Main Street. The Chamber of Commerce built the booth on City Park, with programs run by the Parowan Literary Club and Daughters of Utah Pioneers camps. The Sons of Utah Pioneers will erect markers, aided by local residents J. T. Rasmussen and Calvin Connell, as the Red Hill Wranglers and Forest Service map trails for visitors. The DUP will organize daily Old Rock Church Museum tours during tourist season and display local handicraft at Pendleton's Siege Store, calling for more contributions.

Varied Agenda Holds Commission Monday

Iron County Commission met Monday to handle delegations and administration. The Juvenile Court program would have Forest Service employment and supervision funded by a $500 county appropriation. Cedar City’s So Utah Country Club sought $15,000 of a $75,000 golf course project, but the pledge could not be guaranteed. El Paso Natural Gas Co received a nonexclusive franchise to construct a pipeline and related lines through the county. Parowan Students Win Scholarships to BYU Utah

Parowan High School students Max Robb Darlene Thornton and Linda Knight were named BYU scholarship recipients covering one semester to four years. BYU president Ernest Wilkinson praised the program as broad and selective to attract top students from national and international pools. The meeting also approved county road funding topics and funding uses for a Recreation Tax, with a county attorney inquiry slated for the next session.

Ceremony Unites Karen Boardman and John Bentley

Karen Boardman and John Bentley wed at the St. George Temple on Friday June 10. The couple were honored at a reception at the 3rd Ward recreation hall with family members including Hy rum Boardman Reena Benson Garn Page Janie Richards. The bride, a Parowan High School graduate, wore a Chantilly lace and net gown with a lace bodice high neck and crown veil. She carried a pink rose bud bouquet with a white orchid center. Bridesmaids wore light blue faille gowns and flower girls included Jackie Page Valerie Prisley and Sharon Prisley. Best man was Don Bentley with ushers Doug Bowler Don Robinson and Joe Melling. Max S. Dalley served as Master of Ceremonies.
