Red Hill Wranglers Saddle Club staged a two day Memorial Day weekend race meet drawing horsemen from Southern Utah and Nevada. Programs generated broad visitor interest with 90 percent of net receipts funneled into winners purses, pleasing owners. E. J. King led the meet committee with Rulan Dalton and other officers, Dick Tullis served as pony boy, and Clair Hulet acted as master of ceremonies.

Prominent Civic and Church Worker Mary Orton Dies at 88
Mrs. Mary Lenora Bayles Orton, 88, longtime Parowan civic and church worker, died at Iron County Hospital from age-related causes. A former Iron County Board of Education member and Parowan City Recorder for 12 years, she was active in the LDS Church, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and wrote pioneer histories. Born March 22, 1866, she knew Brigham Young and lived among early pioneers. she influenced genealogical and temple work. She is survived by family and is remembered for her public service and writings.

A.16 Orvan D. Hinton, son of James M. and family from Hurricane Utah, directs a small Craig AFB classroom course that boosts engine life in aircraft by up to 40 percent. He has led 119 maintenance and 179 flight personnel through targeted modules, rewritten outlines, and emphasizes preflight checks and power plant knowledge. His LDS missionary work and public speaking boost base morale and mission safety. He plans further study at Brigham Young University.

PHS Band Invited to 24th Salt Lake Parade Trip
The PHS Band earned an expense paid invitation to participate in the Days of 47 Parade in Salt Lake City. If arrangements work, they will spend three days in and near the city visiting Lagoon. Summer band starts Monday June 7 at 8 am with dormitory quarters provided by the University of Utah.

Scores gathered for Parowan Alumni event marking four years since founding. Joe Benson led rabbit-hunt scoring. 250 attended a Five Mile barbecue and about 420 joined a gala dance. Program at the school auditorium featured Karl C. Mitchell solo, a comedy skit, readings by C. W. Bill Elliot, piano by Louies Marsden, and a local ladies trio medley. Officers and helpers managed registration and events.
