Pioneer Day Observed in Psarowan With Pageant Abounds

Utah's Pioneer Day July 21 celebrated in Psarowan with a morning meeting, pageant, and group lunch. Daughters of the Pioneers directed events, featuring speeches by Emily Crane Watson and performances by local youth. A large crowd gathered for the evening Parowan pageant, deemed better than in January, with many former residents attending.

West Ward Meeting Noted For Exceptional Attendance

The West Ward Sacrament meeting last Sunday was an exceptionally good event with former Paro Wah residents Wm N Eyre Win T Morris Walter G Stevens and George A Mitchell home for the 24th celebration. Special choir numbers enhanced the large turnout and sense of fellowship. East Ward speakers Miss LaMar Lyman and Alma Barney gave interesting remarks but a small audience and missing choir detracted. Next Sunday is the monthly Fast Day meeting with Laptiam service planned Saturday at four o'clock if applicants apply.

Milk Can Orders Collected at County Treasurer Office

Citizens must leave milk can orders at the County Treasurer’s office or with Mr Stringham at the cheese factory. Cans may be paid for on delivery or via milk payments.

Liquor Law Violators Given Jail Sentences

Within the week two alleged bootleggers received sixty day jail terms in Justice Rollo's Cedar City court. Vincent Mulliner pled guilty and serves in the County jail after a raid found moonshine. Ollie Norris of Lund faces an appeal after a separate liquor raid led to a 60 day sentence in Justice Rollo's court following a hung jury in district court.

Lightning Strikes Plant Blacking City Power

Heavy rain on Wednesday felled a city power plant coil, plunging the town into darkness. New coils were ordered days earlier from Dixie Power Co. and were expected soon, possibly needing an expert install. The blackout slowed presses and delayed this issue. Mrs Hart and Mrs Watt of Enterprise visited during the 24th celebration.

Parowan Valley Cheese Factory to Begin Monday

The Parowan Valley Cheese Factory, under Jos R Stringham, will start Monday morning in the old Equitable building. Milk supply and can shortages are noted, with bids invited for milk hauling contracts. Stringham favors Jerseys and Durham cows, says factory will pay per butter fat content, and stockholders meet Saturday night at the Courthouse to organize and finalize details.

Boardman Family Visits Parowan for Subscription Renewal

Mr. W. H. Boardman and his two sons visited Parowan on Monday as business visitors and also paid a cordial call to renew his Tunes newspaper subscription.

Two Men Held On Charge Of Stealing

Thomas Gurr and Parley Rowley, once residents here, now of Buchhorn near Provo, were arrested on sheep and cattle theft charges. Investigators found beef on their premises and they admitted killing calves and a steer. They pled guilty in Justice Court and are held on 300 bond each for District Court.

Local men buy threshing machine in Parowan area

Peter H. Gurr and David Richards will bring a Ned River Special threshing machine to town within ten days. The gasoline powered unit aims to be among the best and will challenge Myersville and Faragonah machines long used by local farmers. Farmers are encouraged to support local equipment.

Parowan Gun Club Backs No Open Season On Upland Birds

At a recent executive meeting the Parowan Gun and Red Club endorsed State Fish and Game Commissioner Madsen's recommendation for no open season on upland game birds including sage hens and grouse due to poor hatch from bad weather. The secretary will inform Commissioner Madsen of the decision.
