Parowan County Commission Discusses Roads and History Work

The Parowan County Commission met last Monday in the courthouse to address Dry Lakes Road condition and access for Jos B Adams and Summit Mountain residents. A $2500 matching-fund motion was approved for a state road improvement in Parowan Canyon, with Sam R. Palmer to remove historical data from old records. Hugh L. Adams urged a study by a state officials group on road classes to aid upcoming legislation.

Baler Stevens Injured By Falling Steel Pipe in Oil Fields

Walter Stevens son of Mr and Mrs W G Stevens of Byron Wyoming was killed when a steel pipe fell on his head while parking in oil fields. He wore a steel safety hat but died 36 hours later. He left a widow, parents, three brothers, one sister and three grandparents. Survivors include Mr and Mrs John Abraham of Wyoming and Mrs Sarah Stevens of Parowan.

Dependants Of Zachariah Decker Sr Hold Parowan Reunion

About 175 descendants gathered in Parowan for a two day reunion July 2 and 22 to mark the 130th birthday anniversary of Parowan pioneer Zachariah B. Decker Sr. Decker arrived in 1851 after serving with the German Battalion. Only two children survive Adele Jayes of California and Oscar W. Decker of Parowan, while representatives of most Decker children’s families attended. The gathering included Zechariah B. Decker Jr and his wife, plus many grandchildren, with several identities confirmed as present.

No Special Deer Hunt In Parowan Paragonah This Fall

The Utah State Fish and Game Department announced no special deer hunts in the Parowan and Paragonah area this fall despite earlier figures. A 25 percent deer decline since 1942 prompted the Board of Big Game Control to approve no area hunts, with 86 permits allocated in other regions across Dixie, Terry, Ox Valley, and Diamond Valley.

Lois Robison Melvin Rowley Marriage Announced

Lois Robison daughter of Doyle and Mrs Robison of Ely Nevada married Richard Melvin Rowley son of George Rowley of this city. The June 27 ceremony was in the St George Temple with Harold Snow officiating. Parents hosted a breakfast at Hotel Escalante Cedar City. The cake featured pink and white with pink ribbons and floral decorations.

4-H Girls Organize S. S. Club Reported Officers

A group of 4-H girls led by Mrs. Gertude Benson and Mrs. Monta Warren organized their S. S. Club in early June and reported officers: President Mary Benson, Vice President Colline Mortensen, Secretary Treasurer Joyce Guyman, reporters Laree Munford and Donetta Taylor, song leader Joan Bayles, organist Ellen Miller, aiming to complete two years of work in one.

Popular Young Couple United In Temple Rites

Dorythe Dalton daughter of Mr and Mrs John S Dalton and Hardi D Adams son of Mr and Mrs Ancel J Adams were united in marriage on July 11 in St George Temple with Pres Harold Snow performing the ceremony. The couple were joined by family members including Mr and Mrs John S Dalton Mr Ancel J Adams Mr and Mrs Harley W Dalton Mrs Luella R Adams Mrs Florence Corry Mr and Mrs S J Whitney and Mr and Mrs Eugene M Orton. A brief honeymoon followed in Southern Utah Paris. On July 15 the bride’s parents hosted a reception dinner.

Local residents visit relatives and travel plans noted

LaNella and Mary Susan Benson spend a week in Boulder City Nevada visiting the Jim D. Lloyd family. The Lloyds plan a ten day visit to relatives then a two week vacation in Yellowstone Park Montana and Troy Idaho before returning by the coast. Several other families from Oregon California and Utah are visiting Parowan Cedar City and nearby towns. One couple travels to Salt Lake City for a 24th celebration and training at Hill Field.

Parowan Bank of Iron County to Open Sept 2 1947

Parowan plans a September 2 1947 opening for the Bank of Iron County with R L Fenton as president, Arthur Joseph cashier, Eva Adams assistant cashier, and a Post Office relocation delay. Charter received from Secretary Heber Bennion and approvals from State and Federal agencies promise insured deposits up to 5000. A County Fair Centennial is also planned September 9 10 with a Gala committee and a preliminary premium list for crops and vegetables.

Fishermen Forfeit License For Breaking Regulations

Three Utah anglers including Dwain Judd of Fredonia Arizona Burke Judd and Carl Brooksby of Kanab lost their fishing licenses for the 1947 season after July 13 arrests for chumming with corn at Panguitch Reservoir. Each fined 25 dollars by Justice Hans P Ipson. Earlier two more anglers had licenses suspended for undersized fish and use of salmon eggs.
