City considers night watchman appointment after string of robberies
At a Thursday meeting Mayor and council members discussed permanently hiring a night watchman to protect focal business areas after a series of robberies. A committee including J King, Robert L Fenton and Heber Gurr will work with the city on financing the ward and selecting a capable official. Marshall Ray H Adams held the role briefly for a week while steps were decided. A $2000 National Cash Register missing from Mercantile was found in a gravel trap. two men, Sherwin Taylor and La Mar Matheson, were linked to the theft. damages were estimated at $200 to $300 and finger prints were referred to the County Sheriff.

Seventies Participate In Five-Mile Outing
Forty members of the 69th Quorcum of Seventies of Paro wan Stake and Stake Presidency members with partners enjoyed a Canyon party at Five-Mile recreation camp Thursday evening. Activities included horseshoe pitching, baseball, plus a camp fire program with Hazel Davenport, Helen McBride, Karl Mitchell and George Grimahan providing music. Community sing and solos followed as volunteers entertained. Committee members H F Bayles, Ray Morris, Claude Orton, Marlo Topham and Kent Marsden organized the event.

Funeral for Salt Lake City Nephew Evan Topham
Marlo and Silas Topham and their sister Mrs Eulala Orton attended the funeral in Salt Lake City for Evan June Topham aged 314 years son of Mr and Mrs June Topham of 423 7th Ave. He died en route to the hospital after a tonsillectomy and cerebral hemorrhage. Services were by Bishop Judd in the Want Chapel. He is survived by his parents six brothers Karl G John Larry Daniel Paul and Stephen all of Salt Lake City maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs John D Giles of Salt Lake City and grandmother Mrs Almelia Topham of Parowan.

Children and teachers of the East Ward Primary Association joined a Tuesday closing social marking the end of summer activities. Groups studied Indiana life, Fall Island era customs, and native crafts. Youngsters wore Indian headbands and beads while singing, and Hawaiian leis were worn as the program moved to a church lawn for refreshments.
